Well... Unlike some sci-fiers, I prefer not to violate laws of physics, engineering and logic (at least, not to violate them largely). And some of them have a nasty habit to dictate shape of things.

Also, it is, actually, a bit low tech. It was designed to be cheap and mass produced

Don't have to - but want to.
Sci-Fi settings with liquid-like vacuum and space battle distances lesser, then WWII naval ones, are everywhere already, so I wanted something a little bit different.
