Description
Me, drawing.Because it's better when you don't see my face
Guess what I'm working on ^__^
Tablet: Wacom Cintiq 24HD
Handglove: Smudgeguard (it's to prevent my hand sticking to the screen on hot days)
Edit
I've been getting a lot of "Oh, you've got a wacom cintiq. You must be so lucky!" lately. And I have to say... even though it's an incredible device, I'm not the spoiled kid many of you assume me to be. As I (partly) work in the graphic industry, and needed a better screen, I use the device a lot for my work as well. I've bought it from the money I earned all by myself, from many jobs in webprogramming and designing, and it took me quite a while to save up to. Just saying I'm either spoiled or lucky makes me feel a bit sad.

It's $675 new on eBay with 18 5-star reviews/168 watchers shipping from the US, a decent gamming laptop is $700-$800, a cintiq 13hd is $850 new on Amazon, I'm saving $875 by getting a SP4 and my laptop needs a replacement immediately anyway, drawing/movies are more impotant to me than high-end games (the game I plan to play on my SP4 is Rocksmith 2014)

I never look on E Bay but I guess maybe I should in a few weeks, at six seventy five it's worth considering since I did want to get a Cintiq in the spring.
How big do the Surface Pros get?

(Amazon review)
I'm voting no
By Ash on Dec 14, 2015
I've been using different versions of the Intuos for the past decade and felt it was time for an upgrade. I've been eyeing the Cintiq for awhile, but I just draw as a hobby, so I couldn't justify the price. I saw this Ugee had good reviews and the price was right so thought I'd try it. First off, I want to start with the good things:
-Their customer support is pretty decent. The person on the other end patiently put up with my five million questions. There was a bit of a language barrier (I had to repeat the same question over sometimes before they understood what I was saying), but they did try to help me and they were super nice, so I give them props for that.
-The monitor is big! Like, really awesomely large. When drawing, there's tons of space and it feels great to go crazy and draw from your whole arm. The image is fair too. Not as sharp as I'd like, but you can see what you're drawing and the quality is not a huge deal breaker.
-You can adjust the stand to whatever angle you'd like. Just pull the little tab up and slide it to your liking.
-It calibrates pretty nicely. There's some discrepancy around the edges, but it's not a huge deal. When you get toward the main center, it's right as rain, and if it ever got weird, it was easy to just calibrate it.
...That's about all of the good I can think of. Now for the bad.
-The absolute worst thing for me was the color. In art, color is an extremely important thing. I know each and every monitor is going to have some variation and is not going to be showing the same exact shade of color, but this Ugee monitor was just absolutely ridiculous. Some colors seemed to show up fine and match closely to what my laptop was displaying, while others were completely different colors altogether! I'd color in blue, and it'd come out as purple! I thought maybe there was too much red in the monitor so I could adjust the settings, but when I'd color in a pinkish skin tone, it'd show up as pale yellow on the Ugee (which is shown in the picture I've attached). I'm not sure what was going on, but the colors were so dramatically different in a random way, I knew I couldn't use it. I worked with the customer service to try to fix the color, but in the end, they told me my screen was functioning normally and that was just how it was. Not impressed.
-It feels cheap. When the pen came, it was in pieces. I was able to put it back together, but it left me with a sense of dread from the moment I opened it. When I was using the pen, there's not much weight to it, so it just feels like you're holding a cheap utensil. I constantly wanted to change it out for a better one. It felt awkward and made drawing seem like a weird uncomfortable task. The super slick glass monitor didn't do it any favors either.
-It's heavy. I didn't weigh it, but if you have small hands and weak arthritic wrists (from too much drawing, ouch), then this is going to be a bit of a pain. There's no way you can draw with it in your lap. That's how I usually draw and I did stubbornly try to do it that way, but I had to forget about it and put it on a table because it was just too uncomfortable. Not so convenient in that aspect.
-The settings don't really make that big of changes. I found the screen was really bright and harsh on my eyes. I'd go to try to tone the brightness down, and while there is an option for that, it didn't seem to do much. The lowest setting still hurt my eyes.
-When sorting through the menu, the buttons were clunky and sometimes didn't even work. When I'd try to press the down button, it'd go down once and then go up, and then go down...Yikes.
Overall, I'd vote no for this. The price is really nice and tempting, especially for the size, but even then, it's not worth it. I returned it. I also tried to use a Surface Pro for drawing, and that was better, but in the end, I just got a Cintiq. It seemed really expensive at the beginning of this journey, but after trying out these others, I see why it's the price it is. The Cintiq does everything you want, feels amazing, and just overall exceeds expectations. You get what you pay for. You really do.
Ugee makes a nice attempt at mimicking the Cintiq, but it has more cons than pros for me. The color was a huge mess. If you're just doodling and don't really care about color, then maybe this'll work. But I seriously don't understand how this has so many good reviews. It's a cheap imitation. I'd rather just use an Intuos without the built in monitor than this. At least then, the color will be right. I'd recommend just saving up and getting the Cintiq. It'll be worth it.

Anyway if you want affordability, either Surface Pro 3 ($400-$500) or Intuos ($300-$400), if you want quality: Cintiq 13HD ($850)

12" Small but it's light/thin/portable, better than lugging around $1550 of equipment, it's still significantly better than Intuos, but not as good as 13HD, most of my contemporary drawing is pencil/pen/ink/marker anyway, you could always get the Ugee 19" but there's little support for it and a friend told me he used it and that it was carp, despite that it's very highly rated and many people have bought it, it's $410 and it's supposedly almost as good as cintiq 13hd (most famous illustrators/digital animatoire's use cintiq 13"-24" which is $850-$2500)
Ugee 19": www.amazon.com/Ugee-Graphics-D⦠I recommend you get this one, I'm not getting it because I have no money and I need a portable new laptop/portable new drawing tablet

I like your tablet, too. And you even use "my" Smudgeguard! Since I myself thought about getting the (small) Cintiq for a long time (and finaly did), I can imagine how happy you must have been to hold it in your hands finaly. I hope you'll have fun with it for a very long time and never regret to have spent your hard work's money on it. :3

super glad to see you using one- i'm going to get the companion soon.... the price means nothing to me- tons of people walk around with 4 and 5 hundred dollar phones that waste a ton of time- there's never anything wrong with having quality things--anyway, what we spend our money on is what is important to us

I was about to say the same - I want one but Im appaling at real art - (well mabey not appaling but the 3D thing is my comfort zone). I bought a budget tablet & find them so counter intuitive - my hand written annotations look like those of a 2 year old with a crayon! Maybe learning to use a digital pencil is the exact same as a being a kid learning to use a real one.

I got a question. Do you find it more convenient to do it on the cintiq then on paper or is it same?Β
I would like the get a cintiq, i was able to get a samsung galaxy note 3 to try out the feel of what it would be like to get one and it is enjoyable, but i do not know for sure if i want it. CoSt ALOTΒ

DamaiMikaz In reply to vincehuh [2014-08-06 17:01:54 +0000 UTC]
It's not for wrist support.
It's for preventing your hand to stick to the screen.
It's called a smudgeguard, if I'm not mistaking.
