Description
I've been wanting to post some of my 3-D works for a long time, but finally got around to it with this thing. This guy is some sort of junkyard minstrel who plays for scraps of food on the grimy sidewalks.Beneath the skin is a wire armature that allows for full poseability. The instrument can be removed (strings have since been tightened), and the rusty chain around his neck can be used as a hanger so you can dangle him from a lampshade or rear-view mirror. He also has some little bells attached to him so he'll jingle when he moves! Isn't that CUTE??
I often make these as gifts for friends (I am both crazy AND cheap!), and this one was made for that exact purpose. I do like to document my works, however, so I threw together this collage of the little beast to share with all of you.
Some people have urged me to sell these online, but I've refrained from doing so for a variety of reasons. Perhaps I'll make an effort to build a few higher quality creatures and see if they attract interest, but I refuse to charge the kind of prices people are demanding (and, even more strangely, receiving!) for their assembly line sock-monkeys, as I would be ashamed to cheat some poor sap out of 50 bucks for such a ridiculously easy-to-make thing.
I mean, come on people! They're made out of wire, glue, and GARBAGE! Make it yourself, for crying out loud...

Glad you think so! I'm fairly pleased with how he turned out. He was fun to build, too.

I too have made my own toys, but this is a level of great skill.

Well, I'm glad to hear it! (and I think everybody should make their own toys - kids and adults)

Well, that makes two of us! (minus the countless days of self-loathing, of course)
From the beginning I've struggled when it comes to creating symmetry and order - so in response, I've gone for maximum crookedness and chaos!

This is awesome idea to make figures from trash and rubbish.
Do you plan to do any more in the future?

YES! I really enjoy building things like this, and have done so since I was a child. I stopped for a while, but have since decided to make recycled artwork a lot more often.

Oh my! I love that he's poseable! And that face! Beautifully done; that grin is horrific and that happily malevolent stare...

Thank you! And yes, he starts to get to me after a while with that unyielding expression. Poseability has always been a big focus in my projects, as a kid I always, ALWAYS hated buying toys that didn't have a full range of motion. Thus, I stopped buying stuff and made my own awesome entertainment for cheap!

Adorable! (And not something I'd like on my bedside table while I'm trying to sleep.) I really like the dreads.

Thank you! The best thing about this guy is that his eyes really do seem to follow you around, and his smile never ceases to disturb. The dreads were also my favorite part & look very life-like! (made of real felted wool)

Thank you! I made this creature more fantastical on account of the intended recipient - the others are less like Goblins and more like animated voodoo dolls.

I really love his hat. It's hard to find caps so *perfectly* rusty!

It's easy when you live in a rural area where people dump every manner of trash along the roadside. And I'm very glad you like him (or at least his hat).
