I like the contrast betwen innocent/gentle and threatening/grotesque. In my opinion It creates a tense atmosphere kinda like creepy children
in horror movies, now, I don't know If I managed to express this feeling in the drawning, but this was the Idea behind It

I see. Probably it's more difficult because like in your example with children, the things which are creepy about them are their actions and they create the contract between their innocence.
Anyway, I like the image just didn't catch the idea.
