I used to be... Loved the three first games and then it turned to kaka in my opinion. Also, the concept kinda lost it's charm.
Resident Evil is still vital and fun though, but Silent Hill has the better estethics

i agree with you entirely on all your points xD sadly i have yet to play silent hill 1, but I have played 2+. To this day, nothing has scared me more than Silent Hill 2 xD In fact, nothing has scared me at all since Silent Hill 2 x/ Alan Wake, Dead Space...child's play xD RE5 wasnt scary, but I didnt really care. the gameplay is tight and i love the characters
