You can see the exact moment he has that fundamental realization that evil must be opposed, when the Daleks have him and Susan tied up, and talk of nuking the planet some more, and he goes, "That is sheer murder!" and that's how the Daleks gained their archenemy.Β
I was really glad to have personally seen this episode when this was referenced in s8. Reminds me that I really must watch more of them classic eps.Β

Uh, this episode still exists.
Funny story actually, someone actually took all 7 episode reals the very day before they were set to be destroyed. They were just sitting there in a wear house, all strapped up neatly in a stack and someone just took them. (With the BBC's Permission of course.)
