Description

This is another carving I'm working on for the guy I did the grape leaves designs for. This one I'm carving on is apple wood. Another first for me. The wood is quite challenging. In some areas it is quite hard and in other areas very soft.....like cardboard. To be honest, I wasn't sure about this one, but once again, a change in technique and I think it is going to turn out alright. As always, thanks so much for viewing.

It is carved into the wood, my Friend. Thank you. When I carve, I carve from the inside out. Once in a while I will draw some lines just as a reference.

Ha! Neither did I?. To be honest, it's not something I would choose to carve on; but, I've seen bowls made out of apple wood and the colors and grain are amazing. Thanks, my Friend.

Yes - I remember seeing bowls made from apple wood. And it's always a joy to see your work.

Looks like your apple wood is splatted
That would explain the soft spots and discoloration

They used to carve apple wood into bearings to be used in clocks due to its harness and the natural oil in the wood that is said to be a lot like Teflon.

Don’t worry my friend
A master carver craves his screwups
in to fine art.

Oh yeah, this is turning out fine. That's why I like free form carving. The flow of spontaneity is a big part of the art.

My spontaneous flow is a product of excessive consumption of Mexican beer 🍺
I think I’ll go nip something in the bud.

Blockage will now descend
Once the bud is nipped
Light will die
Light will be nipped in the bud
Nipped before light could spring
To make the dawn
Before we
The unwashed
Can think
Do we ?
Think
