Just out of curiosity, why don't you want critiques?

because I spent 5 days on this, and when people point out what I did wrong it just hurts my self esteem. this is way, way better than anything I've ever done before and I don't want people going "yeah yeah but you need to improve this and that" when I can already see for myself what needs to be improved. this was just the best I could do. there's no point critiquing me cuz if I could do better, the picture would be better. experience and time is what makes me better, not people pointing out my flaws. the next picture I do is going to be better than this because I'll be more experienced, not because people told me what to do. I don't learn by people telling me what's wrong with my picture, I learn by experiencing it for myself.
besides, the picture doesn't have to be any better than it already is. I'm not trying to be perfect, or compete with anyone. this is the art, this is what it looks like, just look at it for what it is. nobody needs to be picking at it and saying what they don't like about it.

There's really no reason to get so defensive.
I asked you because 1) the picture didn't seem bad enough to fear flames, and 2) because you would never believe how much my stories have improved thanks not to critiques, but to flames.
I used to be pretty touchy on that subject, (read 'a real nasty bitch' ), but after I started accepting other ppl's povs I learned more than in all the time I had been writing before. That is why I wondered why someone with such a good grasp on their pet subject was so adamant about refusing critiques.
The way you closed up to a simple, absolutely non malevolent question, anyway, is somehow a pretty good answer by itself.

I was expecting yet ANOTHER preaching session on how I should accept critiques and why they're so great and on and on and on. it just doesn't work for me. if it works for everybody else that's lovely, but everyone isn't the same. art for me is not about improving. I'm one of those people that believe in art, no one is better than anyone else. it's just supposed to be fun. it's self-expression. I have the right to chose if I want critiqued or not but for some reason it offends other people to say I don't want critiqued. I'm getting rather tired of being picked on over it. that's what the defensiveness was about.
