I saw her sitting on the stairs outside of a mall, talking with her friend. It seemed like a lively discussion. She was the first girl I’ve approached for this project. When I asked “Is it ok if I take your picture?” she comfortably said “Sure.” I was pleasantly surprised, but was still very nervous. As I took this photograph, I was actually struggling.. thinking: “Steadyyy… man, I hope she doesn’t notice my camera shaking.”Please check out my facebook page here: [link]

How do you just go up and talk to people like that? I'd feel way too nervous to be able to do that, let alone create such amazing photographs from the experience!

True. although, even without the release, one can use them on display and, not that I've ever had one, in gallery shows.
I was lucky enough to spend 6 months in Singapore in 2014. I miss it.

It depends on the laws in each country, but in general, no you don't need a release to display a photo of someone. If you're planning to use it for commercial purposes (i.e in an advertisement, or on a T-Shirt that you're going to sell or as "stock" on a stock photo site), then yes, you do need a release.
Be careful what you ignore, though...I've heard that doing art in prison is not an easy thing.

What really struck me about this picture, beside the genuine feeling, was the high contrast on the details of her cute face.
