Description I call this critter "Bowlbit", a combination of bowling ball and rabbit. While this is my own creation, the inspiration was Pokemon (owned by Nintendo, in case you live under many rocks).

[EDIT - After doing a test of the curve on the tail, I found it was my sketch that was mistaken, not the people who pointed out that it "looked weird". I have since corrected this.]

If Bowlbit was a species of Pokemon, I would describe it approximately as such:

Type - Normal
Bowling Ball Pokemon

Ability: Hippity Hop
If this pokemon avoids a ground attack, it does light damage to the attacking pokemon (about the same as what weak poison would do each round).

Bowlbit would have above average HP and speed, average attack, and defense, and below average special attack and defense.

Default attacks:

Tackle
Growl

Level up attacks (in no particular order):

Bounce
Rollout
U-Turn
Double Edge
Body Slam
Minimize
Amnesia
Agility
Headbutt
Zen Headbutt
Dig

As for TMs, I'm not gonna bother going through the list to figure out which ones this critter should be able to use, but it would likely have access to quite a few while not necessarily being able to use them well (type normal and low special attack, after all).

As for HMs, Rock Smash and Rock Climb would be about it, I think. I wanted to say strength, but I think the poor guy would roll out of control before successfully pushing a huge rock out of the way.

I may make an evolution for Bowlbit at some point, which would basically be the same except for looking different and having beefed up stats (with special defense getting the biggest boost).

And yes, I HAVE put way too much thought into this. Thanks for pointing that out, you MEANIE.

I suggest Pinnuny. bowling pin + bunny
It would definately be tall and probabl have "Hard Head" as it's special ability (It might be under a different name ) It pretty much lowers physical damage taken by 10% or so.

Wait... this thing has been up for four years and NO ONE mentionned the fact that it needs DEFENSE CURL on its move list? If you use Defense Curl before you use Rollout you actually DOUBLE the power of Rollout! It would be amazing for this little guy.

Internet you dissapoint me.

Nah, you haven't put way too much thought into it. I've spent literally days putting together fake pokemon before. I have actual tables in Excel where I've worked out the stats exactly. The only thing I haven't ever done was make a sprite. Well, I did once... but that was for Breezeon (flying-type Eeveelution) and doesn't count because I didn't do all the rest of that stuff...

That said, d'awww.... I want to snuggle it.
Maybe I should make one. ...Yeah, right. I haven't done my last three plushie-making projects yet, and they date back up to four years.

Better than a lot of the assembly line geometry we've been seeing since the third generation. Though the eyes be better off rounded, since the elliptical shape immediately brings Kirby to mind.

Considering designing the whole evolution tree?

Heh. I want to use this guy in a PokΓ©mon plotline I have planned.

Anyway, though, I think he'd probably work well as the male evolution to Buneary ( [link] ), since its current evolution is decidedly feminine. In fact, I have created a moveset for it in this capacity! Because I also put too much thought into everything.
And here it is:
(Learns Rollout by evolving)

6 - Endure
13- Return
16- Quick Attack
23- Jump Kick
26- Baton Pass
33- Agility
36- Headbutt
43- Gyro Ball
46- Bounce
53- Healing Wish

It seems to work pretty well.

Also, it's almost painfully adorable, haha.

*looks at the pokemon in question* Hmm... I'm sorry, but somehow, Gyro Ball, TM 74 on the Sinnoh region's list, would seem very appropriate. And trust me, Mr. Shive. You may not be the only one out there coming up with some rather odd ideas, but you definitely come up with the best I've seen. Longtime fan, first time comment, so take it how you will.

Wow, it's really cute!

I'm curious as to how you do it
Do you just choose two arbitrary things ([Rabbit, Bowling ball], [Catapult, Frog]) and create, or is there something more to it? I've tried to create PokΓ©mon-esque things (Which, after seeing this, I uploaded two into my Scraps since they're just sketches...) but for the most part they don't turn out right... heh.

As for over thinking it... I do that to some things as well. I wrote several pages on what PokΓ©mon could be like if it was a Third Person Shooter type game (Where you directly control the PokΓ©mon...) so yeah.... I even wrote out about 60 TM's and how they'd work in game *looks off*

DanShive In reply to ItMovesItChats [2007-06-10 06:15:04 +0000 UTC]

Process for Bowlbit: "Huh. I should make a pokemon based off of the bounce move. Maybe it could be rabbit-like, cause of the jumping involved. It needs more than that one move for its theme, though. What are some other collision moves? Double Edge, slam, rollout... hey, rollout! That's kinda like bowling... bowling ball rabbit!"

Croakapult's design came from the fact that I wanted a move that would catapult allies, so it's design is based on a catapult. Most logical analog for a catapult arm would be a tail that would go over the Pokemon, so making it four legged seemed logical. Since it would rely on throwing allies to attack, it would likely be somewhat nasty, and that impacted the design as I sketched it. I only had that vague idea while sketching, and the face I got was sort of frog-like. That combined with the nasty demeanor resulted in it being a poisonous frog-like Pokemon.

Teddmon originally had nothing to do with Tedd and was just a pokemon that would be used for breeding purposes, but then I got to thinking how it would be cool if it was based somewhat off of my Tedd character. Since Tedd was involved and I started having ideas for other transformation moves, it became more than that. The reason it wound up looking like Mewtwo is mostly due to it being humanoid and my wanting a tail as a transformation gun analog.

In each of these cases, form followed function. If you want to go by my approach, figure out what you'd like the Pokemon to be able to do, and work from there. It's not the only way to do it, obviously, but it's the approach I find most fun. If you wrote out 60 of your own TM's, pick out one that is particularly unique and design a Pokemon around it. Consider what moves, abilities and types would compliment that TM move and what sort of monster would have those things.

Thanks! I had recently been trying to find extremely unknown or rare creatures and draw inspiration from them, but whenever I've done that they turned out to be far too much like the original creature. Always ended up looking more like a sketched portrait than an original design... Kinda killed my whole 'drawing inspiration' idea since it turned out to be more like 'blatant copy'
Heh.

Thanks again ^_^

It should be a multi evo type (kinda like Evee, cept that it would gain Rock, Steel and/or Fighting status), that or a 3 stager.

And what about adding Magnitude into its attack roster?

Ahh i should have thoroughly read this description before looking at your croakapult one, Keep in mind there are pokemon that can no longer get certain moves after they evolve like Growlithe and Arcanine, and Pikachu and Raichu you evolove them too quickly and they lose certain advantages

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DanShive In reply to Aramtyth [2007-05-27 18:12:12 +0000 UTC]

Bah! That's what breeding is for! Cyndaquil with double kick ftw!

*erhem* Bowlbit would evolve by level. Bowlbit wouldn't change types, so I don't think it would lose any attacks in the evolution; it would just have to wait longer to get them.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Aramtyth In reply to DanShive [2007-05-28 08:22:18 +0000 UTC]

while the two types of pokemon i said do evolve via elemental stone, im saying that it shouldnt be out of question for something like that to happen with a pokemon that does evolve with level. And I personally think it would be interesting if a pokemon did change types when evolving, not just eevee and its various evolutions.
Well waiting longer would be the only way to do it, and the ability to stop the evolution has been in every game to date so i would think one would have to go through the game a couple of times before they discovered something like moves on the first evolution.
Now were you planning on giving Bowlbit one or two evolutions.

On a side note i have noticed that they have a tendency of making the overtly cute 1st stage pokemon vicious looking evolutions, what if i like the cute theme lol

Hard to see these things as normal in any context.

"Zen Headbutt"
That's the only move title that strikes me as peculiar.

It used to be against my policy to associate with Pokemon at all, but SSBM persuaded me to relax the policy. Maybe I'll try making one.
