Description
This is a sketch made a few years ago. Sparrowhawk is a character from Ursula K. Le Guin's Earthsea cycle.I'm a very big fan of Le Guin's books, and I made many pictures for them, though, I usually was not satisfied by them... This one I finally liked
This year I plan to make more illustrations - for Ursula's anniversary. So I've decided to put this one here. I think I will put it to scraps later.
Pen on paper.

Awesome Ged portrait! A lot of personality in those craggy features.

A very nice picture of Ged. The nose, scar, and sense of serenity are all described in the book.

Oh oh oh! I absolutely love this depiction. He looks so much like how I see him in the book. not in terms of physically, really (since no one will ever see things from books the same as me, I'm sure) but I think you really captured some of the really important aspects of him as a character... it's emotionally spot on!
And very well done, of course

Fantastic ! I've always loved the Earthsea books, and this to me is just how Sparrowhawk (Ged) should look as an older man. I can imagine him talking to Kalessin.....Can't wait to see more

This is great I love the Earthsea books, Sparrowhawk is such a detailed character and that detail shows in this sketch. It's also sort of how I imagined him too ^^

This is beautiful. These are one of the definitive fantasy stories for me. I saw the mini-series but it wasn't what I thought it would be. It was still cool, but not what I imagined This is a very nice drawing. It's funny, but I looked at the image you made, then I was inspired to do one. I was not happy with it. One of the images from the series that sticks out in my mind is from the part where Sparrowhawk fights the creature in the snow. Have you ever read "The Beginning Place?" I bought it for a girlfriend, and read it first
I loved the description of the monster in that book. Plus, Ms. Leguin has some wonderful storytelling skills. Very speculative, which is always a nice change in a market bombarded with lots of crap.

Horray!
I'm so glad to find out that her books are loved!
Yes, I've read "The Beginning Place" (actually, I've read almost all of her books with a very small exception ). I remember, that in the end of the story one character had sex with the other, having two of his ribs broken
. I remember we made much fun about this scene with my friend - I rememer, that when I had two of my ribs broken, sex was the last thing I wanted %)
My favorite books by her, I think, are "The Dispossessed" and "The Left Hand of Darkness" - and Earthsea cycle, of course, which stands a little apart. But I really love all of her books, I'm a very big fan of her

Me too. I distinctly remember that scene too. That is what I think of when I remember that book I loved that element. I remember I had a literature textbook in 7th grade that had an excerpt from A Wizard of Earthsea in it. The illustrations were so cool. I wish I could remember that book. I think I'll hunt it down so far. I would love to put those on my wall. Unfortunately, we never read it in class, but it WAS in the book
Kinda a bummer, really, but it will always remain with me as an impetus and inspiration for my art and illustration career. I wish I had that book, still, the Beginning Place. I'll keep an eye out for that one, too.

Earthsea art - wow
And I love this image. It's not quite how I imagined him after reading the books - but it comes pretty close. His expression is just right, I think

I love Ursula Le Guin's style.
When I think about it, I often like fantasy written by women - like Farseer or the Pern series
