Description
Because They're Interesting: Regina Mills (Once Upon a Time) - Tragic villains are often very hard to write, but Regina, in my opinion, is one of the most intriguing and complex villains in television. She started out as a poor miller's daughter who fell in love with a stable boy, but was married off to a widowed king against her wishes (thanks to her greedy, overbearing mother), and then betrayed by her own step-daughter (again, thanks to her greedy, overbearing mother). Then, long after the king's death, Regina casted a spell over her kingdom to make her own happily ever after come true, and adopted a boy named Henry, who was later revealed to be the son of Regina's granddaughter, Emma (you have to be a fan of the show to understand it).Because They're Cool: Ash Williams (The Evil Dead franchise) - This guy may be a womanizer and an idiot, but dammit, he's the only character I know that can take down an entire hoard of Deadites with just a shotgun and an old worn down car, AND...he has a freaking chainsaw for a right hand! Groovy, indeed.
Because Their Character Makes Sense: Joyce Byers (Stranger Things) - Some people may see Joyce as a scared, weeping worry-wart, but you know what? This woman has every right to be scared and crying, because her son was taken from her by evil alien creatures not once, but TWICE, and she did everything in her power to stop them and bring her son back. She's one of the most badass moms in the TV history!
Because They Have Flaws: Wade Wilson/Deadpool (Marvel) - This guy's not your typical stoic badass like Batman or Daredevil, nor is he your typical righteous do-gooder like Superman or Captain America. This guy is a clumsy, childish, wisecracking, foul-mouthed, gun wielding maniac...and that's EXACTLY why I love him so much!
Because They're Smart: Tony Stark/Iron Man (Marvel) - Made his first suit in a cave with just a load of scrap metal while being imprisoned by terrorists, established the Department of Damage Control to clean up battle sites and dangerous weapons, and creates specialized tech for every Avenger. Damn, Mr. Stark doesn't mess around!
Because They're Misunderstood: Carrie White (Stephen King's Carrie) - Poor Carrie...being the primary target of school bullies, having a cold, religious fanatic for a mother, and being cursed with telekinetic powers that she never asked for. All this girl wanted was a friend and a chance to be happy at the prom, but those popular kids at her school completely ruined that for her. Even she did end up killing half of the student body, she didn't deserve any of that!
Because They're an Archetype: Fa Mulan (Disney's Mulan) - A normal girl who selflessly takes her father's place in the army, uses her wits to overcome the odds, and becomes the hero of China. What's not to love about this character?
Because I Can Relate: Raven (Teen Titans) and Fluttershy (MLP) - I couldn't decide which character to choose for this particular category, so I decided to go with both. With Raven, I relate to her because I'm usually the quiet one that wants to be left alone, and like her, I also have a fascination for dark and spooky things. With Fluttershy, I relate to her because I'm also very shy, and try really hard not offend any of my peers. I also get very nervous when I have to perform or do some kind of presentation in public.
Because They Have Redeemable Qualities: Zuko (Avatar: The Last Airbender) - On the surface, Zuko may seem like your typical stoic, evil villain, but he's actually one of the most sensitive and emotional characters in animation. As a child, Zuko was abused by his sister and neglected by his father, but when he was old enough to attend a council meeting, Zuko got half of his faced burned by his father for speaking out against their plan to sacrifice an entire devision of new war recruits. Despite having a hot temper, Zuko never enjoyed killing or harming innocent people, and was always loyal and caring to his uncle (even though he'd get annoyed by him at times). Hell, he even took a lightning bolt for Katara in the series finale! If that's not the sign of a true hero, I don't know what is.
Because They're Honest: Rei Hino/Sailor Mars (Sailor Moon - 90's anime) - People seem to either love or hate this version of Rei. I'm more of the former, because even though she can be pretty harsh to Usagi, she usually has good reasons for it. I mean, someone needs to call out Usagi when she's acting like an idiot or a crybaby.
Because They're Nice: Orihime Inoue (Bleach) - This is a girl who's been through so much. Abused by her parents as toddler, bullied by her classmates as a kid, and lost her only brother at the age of 15. However, despite this, Orihime still manages to keep smiling and go out of her way to help and cheer up her friends. Hell, she even went out of her way to use her godlike healing powers on Loly, a girl who she had no reason to save, considering that Loly literally treated her like a human punching bag!
Because of Subtext: Hinata Hyuga (Naruto) - She may not be the strongest, or most well developed character in Naruto, but the fact that she had an emotionally abusive childhood, wanted to prove herself worthy of her father (much like Zuko), and found comfort in someone who was hated by the entire village at the time, makes her a very compelling and emotionally strong character in my eyes.
Because of Their Hatedom: Boruto Uzumaki (Naruto/Boruto) - I was thinking of using Himawari or Sumire for this category, but now that they're starting to get more love in the fandom, I decided to go with Boruto instead. A lot of people like to dismiss this character as a "brat", due to his anger toward his father in Boruto: The Movie, but if you actually watch the movie and the new anime, you'll know that there's much more to his character than that. Boruto may not always have the best relationship with his father, but he's still very kind and caring toward his mother, sister and friends. Then there are the other fans who just hate him because he isn't Sarada (but that's a topic for another day).
Because They're Underrated: Finn (Star Wars - the sequel trilogy) - People love to call this character "boring", "annoying", and "useless", but I don't think he's either of those things. To me, Finn is a tragic anti-villain, because he was kidnapped as a child and groomed into becoming a cold-blooded killer like all his fellow stormtroopers. His story arc of him going from a runaway stormtrooper to straight up war hero is one of many reasons why I enjoy the sequel trilogy (and I think he's a much more interesting character than Crylo Ren ).
Because They Changed for the Better: Steve Harrington (Stranger Things) - HOLY SHIT! Talk about an epic redemption arc! At first, Steve was just a horny asshole that only cared about being popular, but all of that changed toward the end of season 1. He not only apologized to Nancy and chose to wipe the graffiti that said "NANCY WHEELER IS A SLUT" off the movie theater billboard, but helped her and Jonathan take down the Demigorgan in the season 1 finale, formed a close bond with Mike and his friends in season 2, and became the most badass babysitter ever!
Because I CAN: Bloo (Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends) - I don't care if he's considered one of the worst cartoon characters ever, I LOVE this little shit! His pranks and constant sass always had me laughing when I was a kid. Granted, it's been a few years since I last watched FHFIF, but even if the show aged badly, I always thought Bloo was hilarious.

He's also opportunistic and extremely treacherous. Then again, he deserved a better and nastier movie.

Great list! Rei is actually one of my favorite characters in Sailor Moon. From what I got though, Rei is a more divisive character in the English peaking communities. The English dub made her meaner towards Usagi, but they still shown as close. Overaly Rei is a (well written) tsundere type of friend toward Usagi, she is her best friend best friend and vice versa - which is especially visible in Japanese version (as well as at German and Polish dubs, which I can say as I watched.) I mean, she got heroic willpower kill 2 DD Girls, because she protected Usagi, was the most traumatized by Usagi's death in the Sailor Moon R movie, and in turn in the finale of the Star's arc, along with Mamoru's death, Usagi was the most moved by Rei's death.
I don't understand the hate towards Orihime. As you told, she basically went through hell, not to mention, Ulquiorra intentionally put through a series of psychological manipulations including guilt guilt tripping to cause a Stockholm syndrome (which a very sick thing to do) (God, I cannot believe I kinda shipped them once, I'm disgusted with myself) to manipulate her to help/serve Aizen. And that's not even mentioning her abuse from Loly, watching Ichigo get tortured, Nnoitra suggesting Orihime should be raped etc. (With Nnoitra even sexually assaulting her - ie shoving two fingers into her mouth, which a sexual gesture, especially in Japan), and even earlier trauma (ie her brother's death, him becoming a demonic wraith, coming from an abusive family, seeing her friends suffer, a Hollow wanting to again rape via controlling her colleges etc, feeling useless etc.) No wonder she was kinda broken by the Huenco Mundo arc. Yet people say she is "whinny".
And yes, Orihime was underused - which very probably due to Tit Kubo changing the story (it's quite obvious Kubo reconnected ad changed his mind multiple times during the Arrancar to Deicide arc - including cutting out Orihime's role. He himself even stated he had issues with this saga, due to not planning it out.) And Orihime's latter reduced role, after she healed her mental wounds, might be due to Tite Kubo hearing of her growing hate - as opposed to many Japanese authors, Kubo is fairly fluent in English.
Poor Finn got the brunt of both directive mishandling (in the Last Jedi), and stupid fan backlash - a number of fans disliking him for the fact he was "political"/SJW character for being black main character (WTF?), which wasn't helped after The Last Jedi.
With Bloo, I did sometimes find him annoying, but I overall like him, and I don't really get why considered "one of the worst cartoon characters ever".
With Boruto, I saw a lot unjustified hate, targeted at him for intentional character flaws, a lot of which he developed from, which I think makes him an interesting character, along with his complexities. The thing is, Boruto's issues with Naruto have some basis. Naruto is presented be struggling to be both Hokage, and a father at the same time, along with workaholism (which has sense - Naruto had little to no parental model - only Jiraiya for three years as a father figure, with Iruka being more a big brother figure.) A lot of Boruto's issues with Naruto even weren't for the sake of himself, but his Himawari.
(I also saw Naruto being hated for being a less than perfect parent, but the thing is - Naruto really tries to better a father, and get along more with Boruto, and I think it's a more realistic take on him being a parent.)

Zuko was the reason I took up Kung Fu in high school. Joyce and Steve are both best mom material, not to mention props to Steve for beating the ever loving shit out of Billy in Season 2! Mulan is like the second best Disney princess, just under...hmm...either Jasmine or Belle? And who's to say they couldn't make Rey AND Finn Jedi? I sure would, gives room for new ideas! And screw the haters, Hinata and Orihime 4evur!

I'm going to be honest here I cannot stand Broruto. Unlike his dad he doesn't have a reason to complain is that busy and he's not going to use Shadow clones because it probably make him look like he doesn't care for his job. Basically I'm just going to say it Broruto is nothing but a complete ass hat.

As for Trolls, I understand what are you saying about the movie and respect your opinion. I loved Trolls, but it's okay for you to say movie is average. Do you think it's better than A Troll in Central Park (1994)? Do you like Poppy?
