It's been a bit since I've drawn Helena, but alas, spring is here and this shaman can't wait to take in the nice weather and festivities.

So this is her in her belly-dancer garb. I never really explained why exactly she picked up this form of dance, but it's partly because it's good exercise and because it's used for appeasing certain elementals. All shamans have to learn some dances and rituals in order to keep the elements calm and friendly. Every shaman comes up with their own twist and "flavor" for each elemental they have to please. After all, if you want to use their powers, you have to be in good standing with them.

On the technical and personal side, I'm not sure how to explain my fetish for belly dancers; either it's just plain old nasty Orientalism or it's just because I have such a fixation on the tummy that watching it in motion is appealing. As for why I also tend use fat models for belly dancer beyond fetish appeal is to subvert the common misconception that fat people are "slow, inflexible, and clumsy". In real life, there are fat belly dancers as their are ballet dancers, strippers, and stunt performers. Likewise, if people go with the criticism that Helena isn't a typical "fat fur" but is really just "athletic with high fat content", then her strength and grace are believable.

Of course, tiny baby hands and some rather weird hips are proof I need to practice more bodies in motion.
