Description
a piece i happened to finish today.it evolved from an alchemy doodle
i guess its still a prototype since it has no specialization so far. it just carries a smart MG on its bottom and generally flies on its own.no crew needed.
it hoovers over the ground but cant reach high attitudes. 2 heavy thrusters give it a good boost on plain terrain
Here you can find a STEP BY STEP for that piece

I like how your mind creates its own shapes in the blackness that is the negative space.

nice work Adam. I have tired to get smooth lines to form the edges of the metal segments. did you use the pen tool in PS to make it?

thx
its all freehand actually first you go in with the shadow color and paint a "hole" into the surface, then just pick the surface color once again and fill in another segment. this way the dark lines between segments feel more natural and can get pretty thin

Sweet Design. I guess that it could work for various ends. One could adapt it for high speed chases on the highway, or maybe an emergency assistance vehicle.
but hey, with imagination, who knows right?
Anyways the design is very neat and I really like the way you make the metal look... well, so metallic

thx

seriously cool man. you provide so much inspiration and advice. awesome.
although for some reason the back little upright wings look a little twisted to me. they look tilted over to the rightside (far side) of the vehicle. i could be wrong though. please dont hurt me!

it sure can be right what you say. im just afraid of laying over a grid or 3d objects to check xD i bett the whole vehicle would be a total rapage of perspective

i think the rest looked fine. i think you can tell when something is blatantly out of perspective or proportion and i dont think that with this piece.

common sense
ill try to fix it the next weekend with more time on my hands
im just about to submit a STEP BY STEP for this piece since i found enough seperated layers in the PSD files

your awesomeness just keeps growing Seriously, do you just do little sketchies of these then paint over or do you design in 3D?
Love the lighting in this one too! How do you do it?

dasAdam In reply to ballisticCow [2009-06-29 00:57:01 +0000 UTC]
thats exactly the way im doing them. i do most from scratch in photoshop. this one started as a quick alchemy sketch i did paint over. never have been designing in 3d so far. stroking some basic shapes is still way faster than polygon modeling
thanks for loving my lighting it started as a grey shaded model. i mostly start off with just 2 or 3 grey values on black, then comes the refinement by smoothing rounded shapes and such. i added some color in the end and overlayed the white stripes and added that warm highlight on the rounded surface.
well ....er let me see if my photoshop files provide me with enough layers to do a STEP BY STEP out of it
cheers and thx again
