Personality

Refusing to be shackled by the mysteries of her past, Rose lives every day fueled by an unyielding zeal. She'll get what she wants even if she has to take it by force. But she's sought glory for so long that she's not sure why she even bothers.

A force of nature in and of herself. Confident in her decisions and decisive in her actions, she gives off the air of a natural leader. While attentive to the needs of those around her, particularly of her crew, she rarely apologizes for her mistakes. Deeming wallowing wasteful and preferring to move on. Lately though, she's struggled to adhere to her own philosophy and wonders if there's something more she could be doing. With high expectations for everyone around her, she is more often disappointed than not. But she sees her complaining as necessary for improvement and isn't afraid to make her thoughts of inadequecy known.

Having taken rather completely to living in Visage, she is well aware of the situation that her position puts her in. Always on guard, her trust is hard-won by any outside of those she considers allies; and it is a short list indeed. But she is cruelly honest towards those she cares about; potentially in an effort to ensure they live just that much longer. A real risk taker herself, Rose relies on her friends to keep any stupidity in check; lest she put the ones she loves in more danger than is necessary.

History

Summary
    - Discovered in the wastes; taken in by the crew of the Scarlet Wail.
    - When they realize she has no memories she is given a name and put to work.
    - Rose starts doing chores and odd jobs around the ship.
    - Realizing that the captain feels threatened by her she learns how to fight.
    - She challenges the captain to a duel and wins, taking over the Scarlet Wail.
    - In search of glory she leads a series of successful raids on other ships and recruits them.
    - A fleet at her back, she is acknowledged by Sindalamar as a Pirate Lord.

The pirates of Visage are no strangers to the spoils of the desert; they take what the land provides and mold it into something new. When the crew of the Scarlet Wail dredged up two shriveled stiffs from the sands and realized that they were still alive, they were naturally curious. The mare and foal were moved to the Veinstich's quarters; days passed before they regained consciousness. But their hopes for answers were dashed when the former revealed that she had no memories. Not of herself anyway; or her history. She didn't even recognize the foal who'd been found alongside her. Close examination showed no immediate signs of trauma, though they couldn't rule it out. But she was skin and bones, so she had likely been traveling the desert for some period of time.

It was decided that she would work on the ship to repay her debt to the captain for saving her life. Newly dubbed, "Rose" they charged her with doing chores around the ship. Swabbing the decks, cooking, cleaning clothes, and scraping off the worst barnacles every careening. It was during all this work that Rose began to notice that the foal would follow her around. He was too young to speak, but their lack of physical resemblance aside it seemed like he knew her. She couldn't discount the chance that they were at least related. Rose claimed him as her own and he was aptly named Thorn after the way he clung to her in those early days.

Rose took well to her new life; a diligent worker, she was eager to learn whatever her crewmates were willing to teach. They told her that glory was the only goal she'd ever need; everything else was just a means to that end. But that thirst for knowledge was not well received by the captain, still skeptical about the stranger's past. Though they allowed her to stay they were distant; observing her progress from afar. When Rose took interest in training for combat she started participating in the crew's training exercises: namely their one on one sparring sessions.

It took months of practice; eventually she could readily defeat all but the strongest among them. That was when she decided to challenge the captain. Their scrutiny had not gone unnoticed; if anything the attention fueled her ambition. If it was glory she wanted she'd have to take it. And they were standing in her way.

The atmosphere on the ship was heavy with anticipation; everyone knew what was at stake. Rose was especially aware and had taken steps to ensure the outcome was favorable. As they drew their swords and started to fight her plan had already been set in motion. Though she would've preferred to win that way she wasn't about to leave fate to chance. So when the captain finally got the upper hand and pressed their blade against her throat, she took her shot. A single bullet straight through their head.

Having anticipated some resistance to her leadership, she proposed that the crew give her one year to prove she was worthy to lead them. Or else they could dispose of her too. In that time she made a point to start raiding other ships; an endeavor that proved fruitful for more reasons than one. Each ship they captured was brought under her command, along with any crew willing to serve her. Before the alotted time was out she'd grown their fleet from one to seven and showed no signs of letting up.

Her antics managed to catch the attention of the Pirate King who requested they meet. At first she ignored his summons, but she quickly found out that one can only avoid him for so long. His unexpected appearance in her quarters was proof of that. He told her that word of her exploits had reached him; and he'd determined that she was worthy of becoming a Pirate Lord. She accepted of course. Such a prestigious title was a testament to her accomplisments. It was the glory she had sought.

Yet it wasn't much different from before. She attended meetings and Sindalamar regularly darkened her door, but aside from that nothing had changed. There was no innate sense of fulfillment or finality. Just more of the same. To say she'd been disappointed would be an understatement. Was this really her destiny?
