Description
The Ideograms are amongst my favourite projects to come out of first year graphics. In class each of us were given five words to work from and were faced with the challenge of illustrating them in a way that would represent the words' meaning and concept. This project was a fun outlet for me to utilise both traditional and digital media: each of my ideograms started out as drawings in my sketchbooks, which I later went over using fineliner Sharpies and scanned into the computer. The finished designs were completed using Photoshop, Illustrator and good ol' fashioned Serif DrawPlus with the help of my trusty Wacom tablet when things got complicated. I put a lot of time and effort into the creation of these ideograms, especially the designs for 'Ice' and 'Holiday' which I remember spending a whole weekend colouring in. It also helped me to appreciate typography as a serious art form in itself, even though from the looks of it I may have well been taking the piss.
