Thanks. This is an old one, from the camera's pre-conversion days.

It looks so surreal! I really like it! It looks like something out of a dream...or a nightmare. Very very cool effect!

It reminds of a dream I had. It's somewhat scary, but still stunning.

Ooooooh, so you DO shoot other things besides models!
*just kidding*
I like it, perhaps the sky would work if it were in another color, too (my little manias - what would i do without them)
Toilets..?

This was taken with a Nikon D100 & a Kodak Wratten 87 or 87C IR filter, can't remember which. The exposure was probably 10 seconds @ f8, ISO 200.

Yes, it's an infrared image. It was taken with a Nikon D100 and a Lee #87 infrared filter.

It says "Toilets ->" I originally intended to clone it out - but then I decided it was too funny and left it in...

The contrast is amazing and again this is something I've never tried, but should! I love the purple color that the filter gives!

What camera ilter and settings did you use to take this? I'm just wondering because I'm startting to get into IR photography with my digital camera.

DaveMc In reply to Freaks-GeeksAndFlesh [2005-03-22 20:12:19 +0000 UTC]
The camera was a D100 and the filter was one of my Wrattens - either the 87 or the 87C. The exposure would have been in the 5-10 second range.

Oh, and keep your aperture small if you're using an autofocus camera as you can't then compensate for the infrared focus shift (thus the long exposures).

Depends on the distance and the focal length, but in general, never less than f8 on a 50mm lens.
Older, manual focus lenses uaually have an infrared focusing index and a depth-of-field scale. The newer suff doesn't so you have to be conservative.

Thank you so much. I've been googleing and I haven't found much on how to take a good photo and how to convert it so the colors look like they should but the grass is white. I found a forum topic at [link] and I have played around with what has been said but I haven't gotten it down yet. So since I haven't been finding what I want to know I've been asking people. Thank you once more for helping me.

DaveMc In reply to Freaks-GeeksAndFlesh [2005-03-22 21:56:25 +0000 UTC]
Yea, the shots on that link were taken through a Hoya R72, which has quite a low cutoff point so lets through some visible light (you can clearly see the blue of the sky). While that's fine for HIE infrared film, it's not so great for a digital with an on-CCD IR blocking filter. If that's the effect you are looking for however, then you need to get an R72. For a more tradiional "black sky" look, the Kodak Wratten 87 and 87C filters have a much higher cutoff and produce a much stronger IR effect.

You shot this? Noooo... there must be a model hidden somewhere in the back...
How you got the colors of this to look like that is beyond me... amazing! Like a black and white photo... only... not.

I's kinda B&W - it's an infrared image taken with a digital camera through a Wratten 87 filter.

This image absolutely takes my breath. Your composition of this image is just stunning. The single small tree breaks up, and balances the image very nicely. The clouds / storms in the distance just leap out of the sky. Just magnificent.

Thanks. It was one of those days where we had been shooting all morning and I had got nothing that I was happy with. We went to Yellowcraigs to shoot the lighthouse, but I shot the tree instead and threw everything else away. Made the day worthwhile.
