In Photoshop, using a pre-rendered image of a phaser beam.

So no cheap 3ds max effect?
Oh and:
Mexicans are like Tribbles: they eat a lot and multiply like crazy.

Nice...
I'm not too sure about the "pen and ink" style though. (Although it is quite nostalgic. )
Maybe something slightly more realistic?

I aimed for this older style. Back in my days, comic books looked like this.

You know what I love? How in the TOS (before remaster) the phasers were red and in the remastered they were blue.

They were either red or blue in TOS and blue only in TOS-R.

Not saying yours is a bad comic like the one shown, please understand. You're just pursing a very difficult venue for comics.
Here who I'm referring to: [link]
Anyway, a huge problem with a star trek comic is it's style. Star Trek ships are huge battle ships like a quarter the size of the moon. They wouldn't fight in close formation like you show. Also, it's impossible to tell distance here and the massive ship sizes. My recommendation, if you want to do a comic, do one that's based on a series that lends itself to a more personal level interspersing a LITTLE space combat, so we can see characters fighting instead of colossal star ships all the time. A series like, Firefly or Farscape if you've heard of that one.

The problem is, I can't draw so I have to do all of the people via photomanips. Besides, the story does begin with a big space battle.

This looks cool, but I have to agree with Linkara from atop the fourth wall. It's really hard to see space battles in comics.

Torkuda is mistakingly assuming you know about the internet video show called "Atop the Fourth Wall" hosted by Lewis Lovhaug aka . It's a show that reviews bad comic books, and it's fairly entertaining if you don't mind the man's narration style and jokes (he's also a huge fan of Star Trek, and makes lots of Trek references in some of his videos).
By the way, great mini-series, Dave. Good to see you branching out and trying new things.

Thank you very much!
I have to do digital head models of the other characters. I have myself/Capt. Mwetlesits and Summer Glau/Charlotte Ainsworth. I have to build the others...
