Description
A springtime flowers painting, made as a mother's day card for my mum. It also forms the next in my long-running series of semi-abstract impasto flowers, painted without a reference.

Cryla acrylics on canvas board. All painted with a single large painting knife, and all mixed on the canvas. It's very small, only 7x5 inches. Colours uses were ultramarine, zinc white, lemon yellow, cadmium yellow deep, phthalo turquoise. Photographed in strong sunlight, to bring out the texture.

This kind of painting is only partly planned, but more a series of accidents! I wasn't sure I liked it at first - using too large a knife on too small a canvas. But it grows on me - I know they're not realistic daffodils, but that wasn't what I was aiming for. In paintings like this I have to see what happens with each knife stroke, see what it looks like, and then decide on the next colour/stroke from there!
