Description
Full title of this piece "The Ark Royal Tugged to her Final Birth to be Broken up."It is a new painting inspired by Turner's "Fighting Temeraire " and the events on 3 December 2010, where the UK's last aircraft carried was towed away through the mist to be decommissioned.
Sennelier and Neopastel oil pastels, and graphite on 300 gsm W&N Artist's Watercolour paper, prepared with 1 coat of acrylic gesso. A4 size (12x8 in).

you show us the great example of impressionism... I like your work, it's very good and original... do you like any of impressionist painters ????

Thank you! Yes, I love most of the impressionists, and have done a variety in this style (see my gallery). I especially like Turner, Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, Renior.

Well, even without knowing it, I thought "Turner" when I saw the thumbnail of this picture in my inbox... I like it, there's a sort of dreamy transparency to it, particularly in the way the ship appears in the mist, and the contrast with the vivid red and yellow of the sun is beautiful. A lovely work !

Thank you! I heard about this event on the radio on 3 December and immediately thought of Turner's Fighting Temeraire. They described it looking ghostly, emerging from the mist...
