Description
My interpretation of Gustav Klimt's famous painting The Kiss.* Full view or download for best viewing! *
My version is mixed media - acrylic and oil pastel. For the gold effect I used "rich gold" Cryla iridescent acrylic paint, which shines like gold because of the tiny mica particles which are mixed in with the paint.
For the base layer I applied heavy body acrylic paints (Cryla and Liquitex) with painting knives. When this was fully dry I added lots of details with oil pastels (Senneliers and Neopastels). It is 12 x 9 inches on stretched canvas, with the sides of the canvas also painted.
I photographed it in strong evening sunlight to bring out the texture and the gold. It still doesn't really capture it - the gold background shines and provides a contrast against the matt finish of the pastels...
It is a very experimental piece, so do let me know what you think!

Sometimes a little of it here and there in a painting makes all the difference.

Thank you! My main tip is just to keep experimenting. Don't aim to exactly duplicate the original, but do it in your own way...

Superb! At once very Klimt-like and at the same time, very davpuls.
The lovers are so very "One" and yet still distinct.
The coloring really captures the eye. I'm sure the original is even more gold. Robert Frost once wrote, "Nature's first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold." Somehow gold eludes the photographic process too.

Thank you! Yes, I really like looking at the real thing and seeing the gold change brightness as you move your head...
