I encountered this in the old game Ultima, in a mine. I don't recall whether I defeated it or whether I just escaped. I DO know that back in town, I had less bargaining skill with merchants and a few spells failed. Indications of lessened intellect.
Ultima had sequels, BUT I was dissatisfied by far with it so I never played any sequel.
Odd mixture of medievel questing and outer-space adventure.

Intellect devourer? I have a plan if it attacks. Use only Empirial Stormtroopers to kill it and it'll either be shot to death or starve.

Hrmm...I dunno. Sometimes, simplicity is a good thing. This just looks cluttered to my eyes, like a really bad Spore creation. It's certainly terrifying, but it's not my kind of terrifying.

The only one safe from the giant brain alien is Fry (Futurama).
