I've not had much time for sketching recently, as I've just started four or five new paintings. Having said that, here's a half finished drawing I've had sat on my desktop for a week or two. I think it's about the frustration of having to work in an office five days a week, when I could be painting (note the office chair, the princely figure cramped behind a tiny desk with a monkey on his back, and the imp holding a paintbrush away from him - as if taunting him with the possibility of what could be achieved).
As mortals, time is the most precious commodity we own, and yet we're all forced to trade in the hours of our lives in exchange for money, a currency just as transient as ourselves, and no more tangible. I'm not proposing any utopian solutions to the problem - I'm merely suggesting that you can't put a price on inspiration and inner vision, and if you could, it'd be worth more than I earn in a week.
