It's a value for hour, so the cost of the drawing depends of the complexity of your request. We can reach an agreement on the number of hours and level of quality that satisfies you for exemple

I understand, but I was asking what would be the approximate cost for the quality of the commission that you used as an example for the poster commissions?

In that poster exemple, I made the digital portrait of the person, and the rest of the elements are photos that I worked to put everything together. Maybe around 100 euros. But like I said it would depend of the request, only drawings or only photos, drawings and photos, dimensions, and the post production. Drawings requires always more time.
It's a customized poster like the commissioner wishes

I'm really not into extreme realism but, this is intense. I'd love to commission you for something.

I get that the price varies, but you should really consider putting up a general price range. There are artists on dA who will do full color characters and backgrounds for $20 and then there are artists whose sketches alone run $45, so having something so vague as "prices vary" may scare a few people off. Or worse, they could assume that you change your prices on a whim, charging more to people you don't like or for characters you don't like as much as others regardless of whether the same amount of effort is required.

I think scaring people off is kind of the point, actually. Someone with this level of skill needs to free up his time for serious commissions as much as possible. There are too many artists I know that try to make a living out of it but get screwed over by people when it comes down to final payment. So basically, you have to ask yourself, "Do I believe I can afford art of the level I consider this artist to be?" If you look at it, and think it would be too expensive, then it probably is.

That being said, I do think it would be fair if the artist put up his lowest price possible for a commission, but only if he wants to be able to attract more consistent work. That is up to the pace they choose to set for themselves, which is nobody else's bizz.

I guess I wasn't as clear as I intended to be. I've seen artists of this skill do full stuff for 20 bucks and others who charge double that for just sketches, so "do I believe I can afford art of the level I consider this artist to be?" Well. "I really don't know, because the level I consider this artist to be has been sold in other places for wildly varying price ranges." I've seen artists who draw like I was drawing in 4th grade who will charge 25 dollars for chibis. As nice as it would be to be able to look at art and just know what it's going to cost, that's simply not possible on this site. The solution to getting screwed on payment isn't to leave your prices a mystery, it's to get paid up front. Many artists do that already and people are fine with that. I see where your logic is coming from, but I have to disagree.

Also I can't tell if the nobody else's bizz comment is directed at me because I offered some advice or not. While it is true that an artist's decisions are their own to make, an artist who wants to make money would be wise to consider his own marketing. "I'll do things my way" gives you a lot of freedom, but it won't rake in as much profit as considering your audience, especially when it's something as simple as announcing your prices up front.

If I was the artist, I would consider those all personal problems that do not concern me. *shrug* But I'm not. I'm just some dude on the internet.

If you want to know more about a piece of art, you could always just inquire further to the artist themselves instead of announcing your thoughts publicly.

You have to admit there's some irony in your comments. You start your comment with "if I was the artist" and go on to point out "but I'm not. I'm just some dude on the internet," and you even finish with "instead of announcing your thoughts publicly."

My original comment wasn't an inquiry about art, it was a suggestion on how to improve commission sales. The opinion was there purely to give the artist something to think about. I don't purchase commissions so I have nothing that I want to know about a piece of art. Also, you say I "could always just inquire further to the artist" but ironically that's what I did in the first place. I posted a comment for the artist. Just because you chose to insert your opinion doesn't mean that I was talking to someone else. XD

You're an amusing individual and I certainly appreciate the entertainment, however I don't want to be misunderstood. My original comment was indeed to the artist offering commissions here. Hence me posting it on this artist's commission guide rather than the forums or a bathroom stall. I hope that clears things up sufficiently.

Well I am glad you can see the irony and are entertained. Life is too serious sometimes.
