Description
Alright! After a painstaking 20 hours, I have finished a wonderful car completely in Illustrator CS2. All blends, solids, and opacity tricks I've learned, no gradient meshes.Suggestions ALWAYS WELCOME!
God Bless!

Thanks.
Only a couple tricks really:
1. Creating a solid shape the color of a highlight I want, then using a duplicate of that shape on top of a rectangle with a black to white gradient to make a fading opacity mask. (that sounds really confusing, hope that's understandable. If not, it may be time for a short tutorial.)
2. Sometimes layering more pieces with lower opacities is simpler than trying to figure out how to create a certain color blend within one shape. Like the left side of the chrome rim on the front here, using a gradient mesh would have worked for the black/grey squiggles, but would have been more complicated than just a couple extra solid color pieces that I used.

Wonderful job! I know how much work goes into a vector image of this detail - ( and in CS2!) much more exacting than anything I ever tried. The colors and reflections are spot-on. Your step-by-step is very cool as well.

Thanks. I hadn't really gone this in-depth with any before this either, but if you have a solid grasp of blends, opacity masks, and layering modes it's not that difficult, just crazy time consuming.

Also, I've got a link in the description where you can purchase the vector artwork for this in case you or your friend are interested.

This looks like a real Bugatti to me. With your permission, I'd like to use this car to recreate a classic Far Side cartoon. Specifically, I'd like to show this car turned upside down on the Autobahn or on a race track, with a howling dog sitting on top, and with the text caption "When Car Chasers Dream."

this was done with no gradient meshes ? that is absolutely amazing work, all of you work sir is an inspiration !
I love vector art work and you have inspired me to put many more hours into my own work
I could only imagine how many hours it must have taken you to learn how to do this level of realism
kind regards

thanks so much. you'd be suprised at how easy it is once you try it. I used several blends, and semi-transparent objects to make those effects. I just start with the big objects and work my way smaller and smaller, drawing right on top of my reference image. It does take a long time, but it's tedious, not that difficult. Thanks for the comment!

I thought that was 3D at first. Wouldn't have guessed that something like that would be possible in Illustrator. I'd definitely steal that if I came across it in Grand Theft Auto
