Description 14x18 oil on Canvas

I got to a point in the painting and liked the tonal value and contrasts and decided to leave the skin tone orange.

Thank you for your comment. I often feel out of place with my classical art in this wide growing contemporary art style these days. Here in Vegas, it is VERY contemporary and abstract. Even the museum judged shows lean more towards the abstract...Where's the culture?????????? Thanks again.

Of all the peices you've chosen to present here, this is my favorite.

Simple, elegant, intimate without being sexual at all.

This, I think is the hardest of the feminine traits to capture, the intimate relaxed pose, available only when they are supremely comfortable, and not prurient at all, just, beautiful

As to the orange coloring...is it not fairly close in temperature to a low-watt incandescent bulb? like the small lamps on a bedside?

I think it adds to the intimcay, and is pertinent to our age, the old masters would have colored such intimacy in candlelight, and you chose the lamp next to her bed...

very very well done.

I would add your style, to my list of componenets to emulate for instructions sake, if you dont mind.

be well, metatetron

Thank you. I hung her in my first one man show and someone couldn't leave without her...My first real gallery sale!!!!! It is alot of peeps favorite. I want to do another like it but with a diferent model.

You have a good eye and a way of explaining your point. Especially about the lighting. Some have said, "Whats wrong with the lighting or the orange color?" If they look in the history books of the old masters...they will see more warm tones throught skin tones.. Natural light or candel light will produce those colors in the skin. Nice call.

Tanks again, ~Patrick

Beautiful. I was just browsing through thumbnails, and this one really caught my eye, with the light on her face, and the expression.

I love how her face glows as though lit by soft firelight. It's a beautiful, rather romantic portrait. Once again, your treatment of the subject matter shows your idealism and love of any subject you paint.

Thank you for your comment. Your comment about the love I have for thte subjects I paint is so true. It is almost an intamat relationship. I my mind I imagine what it is like to feel the object, whether a rose, ballet slipper and yes...teh human form. When painting a female nude, I imagine the warmth of her skin, the tenderness of her curves and I translate that feeling onto the canvas. I must say that it is not as good as the real thing.

Thanks again!! --Patrick

You have a beautiful gallery, but i have to say that this one is my favorite. Love the deep contrast, the softness of the face as well as the glow. Makes me think of quiet and peaceful. You are very talented!

Hi, and thank you for your comment. that painting has a certain place in my heart because it was the first painting that sold in my first "One person" show.

I really like your Wolves!! "Wolf1" is very aborible. great pastel work. And the original Wolf, I love the feeling of movement created with the whispy strokes. It really looks like it is in action...after its prey...or defending its young pups.

Frustration comes to use all. If one piece is getting frustarating or bordom sets in...just move to another one. Each piece is a study. You take from each one, alittle knowlege and experience and move to the next. I have several painting that will never end up in a gallery or even on this site. They are studies....good or bad. Just be patient with yourself, we are our own worse critics. Keep drawing!!!!

Very nice use of colours. I like that warm, orange tone. Too bad that the resolution of the photo isn't very good, I would love to see a sharper image of this.

Thanks for the comment and yes, the digital photo is bad quality. I cant redo it because the painting sold. My first set of nude paintings ahve the orange tonal quality. I am now venturing into adding color to teh shadows...not just darkening them. See Cheribum for an example. I still like the strong contrast of the dark shadows and will use it if the subject matter calls for it.
