So yeah!I don't think there are very many tutorials out there like this one and it always seems to be a problem for people, SO HERE IS A REALLY CHEAPY, EASY, ATTRACTIVE-LOOKING tutorial on how to do fins for the seadwellers from homestuck!
YEAH.
I'll be doing a Feferi and a Condesce cosplay at Ikkicon this New Year's! So FINS!!!
Stay tuned and I will finish this tutorial with sculpting and backing for people who are looking for a more realistic look!

The jewelry thing really isn't that big of a deal!
I bought about three ahem "fancy" rings at some dollar store and painted parts of them and then the rest of the rings i made out of metallic gold paper. If you're doing Eridan then the rings would be easy to do. But for Feferi it's easy too! I used the same method! Craft foam works just as well 8))
It's just a matter of getting creative hehehehe and saving money u-u(\;;;

would it still be functional if one were to use earrings to keep the fins pressed against one's ears?
like, the fins would have piercings, thus staying close to one's ear.

I think it would work but you will want to be careful using ear rings. I don't have mine pierced myself but for one thing you don't want it irritating your ear. And for two if that paper gets snagged on anything/one then the paper could rip off and maybe rip off your earring with it NOT TO GET GRAPHIC OR ANYTHING. AND THAT IS DEFINITELY A WORSE CASE SCENARIO BUT I AM PARANOID AHAHAHA.
But I mean, yeah! That would definitely be a trial and error thing you would have to check out yourself!

I mean, rubber cement could work too. Any glue. Super glue? Yeah.
If not you could always use clay? Like paper clay or cloud clay something light. Just get creative with it :0
Also if you used a stiff/strong enough paper you could probably have the back attached to the front and bend it yourself?
