Description This is just a little drawing of Gwen again, where I was looking at a few practicalities of her clothes. Obviously, it can get a little nippy in the Welshlands, so I just wanted to show that the sleeves of her tunic do normally roll down and have the same knotwork border on the cuff as the hem. And the tartan tie around her waist doubles as a scarf.

This also contains an amendment that I missed out of the original pose, and that's her rune pounch But don't expect her to be casting them any time soon. They belonged to her Grandmother, before she died, and as yet, Gwen hasn't the confidence to use them.

As usual, really beautiful! Amazing eye for detail and realistic shadow. I love the little touches, like the runic symbols on the pouch and the accuracy of the tartan. Love it love it love it!

as usual, it's lovely. her clothes look a little stiff here, less folds and such. thicker fabric? ^_^

Yes, it's thicker for when winter comes ... I should really give her a cloak, too.

Er... yeah, pretty much. I don't post everything I draw, cos most of it's shit. And when I can't find the muse to draw, I try and back to writing the darn thing that my drawings are based on! It's a viscious cycle!

And when I can't do either, I turn into a vegetable and watch movies or read on the sofa

so you DO do something other than draw~ ^_^ btw, doesn't it take long to draw one pic? i mean, your drawings are really detailed and shaded all nicely.

It depends, because I can draw a very rough sketch (trying to get limbs in the right place and such) on and off over a few days. They look like very non-descript line drawings where only I can understand them, cos I know how I envisage them

has seen loads of these in my sketchbook for "17 Days". She nods her head when I show her what I've done, but she doesn't really see them as anything

But when it comes to actually working into it, shading, folds, details etc and making it a proper drawing, I try to work on it continuously, otherwise I lose the flow, so to speak. Usually it takes a long afternoon, or if it's a big picture, it can take all day ... which is why I never get any college work done

Well, that's how the rough sketches start. I have tons that I haven't gone back to in months, sitting, waiting to become more than a scribble ...

Keeeewwll! Sorry I havent commented yet - I recognise some of the runes on the purse.... spelled for protection eh? I really like this one because its a very classic stance you've drawn her in. Where do you get the patterns for the sleeves? The interlocking celtic ribbon -things that trims her sleeves? I wanted to have a go at it myself but I couldn't find any... could you give me some ideas????

I have loads of books of different knotworks, trims, patterns figures, animals, all sorts. It's difficult trying to recreate them on a much smaller scale, though, so mine tend to look a bit crooked and wrong, but there are loads of references out there, like these:

"Celtic Knots: Mastering the Traditional Patterns" by Aidan Meehan
"101 Celtic Knotwork Designs" by Courtney Davis
"How to Draw Celtic Knotwork: A Practical Handbook" by Andy Sloss

There are also websites that have diagrams on how to draw them

wow.. your artwork is amazing, you've really got skills!
Those clothes looks really soft and warm
And the people you draw all look really realistic instead of skinny and "cartoonish", that's great!
