Make another layer and put the color layer under the lineart.

Is your lineart above all the other layers??? Lineart should be one of the top most layers; colors should be UNDER it

QUESTION!!

My problem with this is the fact that trying to put down a base color still goes outside the lines of my lineart...I'm trying to figure out a quick easy way to do this with *soft* lines because whenever i use the wand it leaves holes/dots/etc or i have to edit the entire lineart to make it fill the selection correctly (I.E: fill in gaps on a lineart that really needs that gap for style)

deidaraart5 In reply to TheStoneOfDoom [2017-12-04 03:30:57 +0000 UTC]

You’ll just have to manually outline the area you want to fill with your brush tool and then, with layer selected instead of canvas, bucket fill in the outline and proceed as normal ouo)/

Ninjapants237 [2017-11-26 06:12:19 +0000 UTC]

Now that I've figured out all of the steps, I have one question left.

Is step 9 necessary? In the pictures you show between step 8 and 9, there isn't a difference(that I can see, anyway). Not much in the last picture either. I guess it could be that I don't really get how to do it? For a step about highlighting, it really darkens... EVERYTHING. Am I doing it wrong?

deidaraart5 In reply to Ninjapants237 [2019-01-14 08:41:10 +0000 UTC]

How did I not get this comment wtf??? Anyway (though this is probably a redundant reply by now) step 9 is blending the highlights! You have to have the layer on ADD for it to work properly; you use a bright color and black instead of a shading color and white

Hey thanks! I'm making the transition from MSPaint to Firealpaca and couldn't figure out how to do highlights.

I already knew about the multiply trick but couldn't for the life of me figure out highlighting.

This is a very well done tutorial!
I have been doing cell shading style to color my works.
This tutorial helped a lot even though I'm not using alpaca. This really speeds up any coloring process.

I never have thought clipping layers is this so important.
Thank you so much for this...

gonna practice this method now.

how would i change the color if i already drew everything out including details without destroying my hard work?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

deidaraart5 In reply to dovelovemu [2017-09-14 04:23:07 +0000 UTC]

If you have the color in question on its own layer you just ctrl+u and fiddle with the sliders. Otherwise you'll have to manually change the flat color- if it's already shaded and everything is merged there's not rly anything you can do easily??

What brush did you use to line it? I've been looking for a brush such as that one for a while, but I can't seem to find one.

deidaraart5 In reply to Blur-e [2017-07-08 05:02:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh it's actually a custom brush I made! If you have medibang tho you can download some similar ones (the pencil rough styled ones) for free from the cloud
