Description Monthly sketchbook assignment. This one was non-western themed.

I put a lot of research into the concept of this piece, in an effort to get a decent mark in class (for once).
It's all about different cultures and their perceptions of good and evil.
The bats are a symbol of good luck in Asia, bad luck in Europe.
Peacock feathers are good luck in Europe, bad luck in Asia.
Crows are good luck in Asia, bad luck in Europe.
Doves are good luck in Europe, bad luck in Asia.
Dragons are good luck in Asia, bad luck in Europe.
Owls are good luck in Europe, bad luck in Asia.
I also kept compositional balance in mind, as well as texture and line qualities, so if I don't get at least a 90 on this I'll be damned.

...might even pull a Van Gogh if you know what I'm saying.

That' so interesting, and it shows how true it's that the culture changes all of our perception (I'm pretty sure that I've said it all bad in english, but I hope that you can understand me anyway xD)

This looks amazing! I love the detail throughout the piece- the owl, the dragon, the bats-each little piece looks like you spent a whole lot of time and effort on it.

Two things stand out to me when I see this piece- the incredible line work (and deliciously unique style) and the amount of effort you went to creating it.
Particularly I think the line work on the owl is fantastic.
In fact, better than fantastic- but no such word comes to mind. Brilliant, perhaps? : )
I find it rare to see traditional art of this level, or depth, and you should be pretty proud of your ability to bring these elements together. It's a difference-heavy piece, so being able to create two completely different ideas but have them compliment each other- pretty amazing.

With regards to the piece, and the style, I have little to add as critique, just keep up the great work! (And don't cut off any ears.)

You're quite welcome, honey.
I'm glad it was of use and I hope you got a good mark on this piece (if you know yet) and if so- congratulations. : )

Also, good to hear! I'm sure you look lovely with both ears intact.
