Thanks Rahma... and no, just front and back views of the same robot, to show detail. No robo-dating.
To answer your other question, it really depends on who you are working for and what they do. Lately, I'm under the impression that Maya is currently the king of 3D here in the US... but that is a broad statement based on my opinion ...and like all opinions, mine barely matters.
Along with Maya, the big ones are Lightwave, 3DS Max, and XSI... if you spend the time to get good at ANY of those, you should be OK and fairly able figure out the others and if you potentially have a smart employer who knows this, that's what matters.
