all the talk about guns you are thinking machineguns and sub machine guns why not carry a good old high power bolt action with a good sturdy stock and lots of ammo and a trusty pistol as your sidearm and have a nice big 4x4 jeep or truck full of gear and enough gas to get stuff done with a winch and roll cage and heavy duty miltary fenders like on humvees and go out to farm land and build a base with some wood and nails, roofing, tin and some barbed wire and some fenceing and sand bags and i can get thaht all at my homedepo, gunstore, walmart and army surplus store and also a good long k-bar knife and i live in homstead so ican just drive to the redlands

Wanna be prepared? don't carry an AR-15! because they jam, and then you get eaten.

Bit of a myth actually. I have talked with many soldiers who served with the original M16 and found it quite reliable. The problem was the cheap ammo the government bought which soured thw rifles rep forever. Mine never jammed once in close to a thousand rounds. Just need to keep the dust cover closed when not in combat. Seen mud and sand tests where they run fine as well. Ammo in Vietnam was the big problem.

an armalite and a system which would be revised by vltor or even heckler and koch is not the same thing.. an AR-15 is 60ies tech... there are various improvements, specially with the HK-416 internals. sure the M-4 are known for jamming.. specially in desert regions. but they were made for damp conditions anyway

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ScrewfaceRomeo In reply to DerRauber [2011-09-25 16:30:37 +0000 UTC]

Yet they didn't function in damp conditions anyway. *Cough* Vietnam *cough*. Granted HK did a decent job with their internals, but I'd still rather not bet my life on a piece of tech that needs tons of aftermarket expensive parts just to function properly, I'd rather have a weapon that I know for sure will fire every time I pull the trigger, like a Kel-Tec or an AK. Besides, when dealing with Zombies you want a gun that can double as a melee weapon if need be, and an AR's buffer tube and plastic stock shatter if you drop it hard enough, let alone try to smash a skull in. In fact, Max Brooks himself says to only use an AR variant if nothing else is available.

DerRauber In reply to ScrewfaceRomeo [2011-09-25 16:40:44 +0000 UTC]

i hate aks as the bullet is too inaccurate. specially above 250 metres. and well i have the aftermarket parts.. still if the zombocalypse comes i will probably choose my beloved g36

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ScrewfaceRomeo In reply to DerRauber [2011-09-25 16:58:30 +0000 UTC]

A Galil AK or another 5.56mm varients are actually quite accurate, it's the 7.62 that's lacking, although an extended barrel will fix that too. And, yeah the G36 is an execlent gun, one of my favorites. although if I had to pick a Zombie Apocolypse gun it would be this:[link] the Kel-Tec SUB-2000, a 9mm carbine that can accept almost any pistol magazine (includeing 30 round Glock mags), is super accurate, light as hell, folds up smaller than a laptop and is very reliable. If this had been around when the ZSG was written, it would be the main suggestion, as it's pretty much everything Max liked about the M1 Carbine, only more.

DerRauber In reply to ScrewfaceRomeo [2011-09-25 17:01:05 +0000 UTC]

i would try to not let zombies that near to me that i can hit them with a 9mm... M1 is nice still its also about personal preference and specially also whta in which country is available

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ScrewfaceRomeo In reply to DerRauber [2011-09-25 17:08:56 +0000 UTC]

The SUB-2000's gas sealing and longer barrel give it an effective range of nearly 200 meters, or 650 feet, more than enough for zombies. also due to these things, at 50 meters and below it's as powerful as a .357 Magnum. And if you want more range, try the Kel-Tec Sport/Utility-16 on for size, it's a 5.56 that uses an AR bolt and magazines with an AK operating mechanism, built in bipod that collapses to form the foregrip when not sniping, has a folding stock and is very accurate and light weight

DerRauber In reply to ScrewfaceRomeo [2011-09-25 20:29:39 +0000 UTC]

then i would prefer the masada. in the ak cartridge

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ScrewfaceRomeo In reply to DerRauber [2011-09-25 23:18:02 +0000 UTC]

The Masada? you mean the gun they turned into the ACR? It's cool because it can accept many calibers, but the AK caliber, 7.62x39mm is pretty rare in the U.S. compared to the 5.56 or .223 rem or even .308. besides, for the purposes of zombie hunting, the 7.62's low accuracy and high weight and volume make it pretty inefficient

DerRauber In reply to ScrewfaceRomeo [2011-09-26 04:56:35 +0000 UTC]

you brought up the AK xD and i mentioned already that i hate the AK because its low accuracy. that was my first choice why taking an 5,56 Vltor M-4 for the pic

ScrewfaceRomeo In reply to DerRauber [2011-09-26 12:34:02 +0000 UTC]

I like the design for it's ruggedness and simplicty, but the round is a problem, I think I mentioned a Galil or AK-74, which fire the 5.56 and are actually quite accurate. of course as I mentioned before, my first choice would be some kind of Kel-Tec rifle.

Too many guns, clearly you skipped the key parts of the weapons chapter, this is the kind of shit that can get you killed!

It's true, there is nothing wrong with preparation, even if it's just mental preparation. I know I'm ready for it at any moment! Good work.

DerRauber In reply to thinkubus [2011-09-19 02:02:01 +0000 UTC]

its 2 guns.. the weapons chapter clearly says more weapons, its a primary and a secondary.. nothing more..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thinkubus In reply to DerRauber [2011-09-19 02:27:36 +0000 UTC]

Fair shout, it isn't excessive to have merely and primary and secondary, and forgive my flippancy it was merely a joke, clearly you are well read lol.

Personally I wouldn't carry a single firearm, save for maybe a flare gun, or an air pistol for hunting small animals. Guns (along with ammunition) are weighty, loud, and limited in their uses and longevity due to requirement of ammunition and masses of maintainence, and also that using them effectively requires a lot of practice (which takes time and ammo!). Perhaps the side arm would be a very good ditch weapon, I often consider ditch weapons to require the most thought, because thats when its really gonna save your life or not.

Each to their own on this subject as always, every weapon has merits and flaws, it can't be denied that in the right hands, a single firearm can drop multiple Zedheads in a very short period of time with little effort. Personally I'm a close up and nasty kind of fighter. I don't intend to do make any contact unless I have to, and when I do, I want to trust in my abilities and strength rather than the success of a complicated and sometimes unreliable weapon.

Again good work, it's nice to see some people out there taking the first initiative!!

PS to any weeaboos and waps out there: NO! KATANA IS NOT THE BEST WEAPON EVAARRR. They rust very easily, they get blunt, they're fucking heavy, they get stuck in the flesh, and if used properly they are a slashing weapon designed to open the body, which is USELESS AGAINST ZACK.

That is all.

DerRauber In reply to thinkubus [2011-09-19 02:32:59 +0000 UTC]

well im used to wield heavy stuff. as when you take a look onto my other pics you see my normal every day gear weights about 32 kg.. so just the guns are actually lighter than every thing im used to xD. for the sound... well as the guide says there are no runners or anything, they can hear me.. ammo is the more problem. and i wouldnt use the guns for the zombies most.. actually more to defend against human looters. also... silencers got them for both guns. i have also a load of knifes and cleavers so. i would use either my home or my work as a base as both are well defendable and there i could stack up my armoury. and choose to when going out what to take with me

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thinkubus In reply to DerRauber [2011-09-19 02:52:47 +0000 UTC]

Ah see here you are lucky, I have almost no easily defendable locations near my home, and the ones that are would be full of people, which for me isn't ideal, I want a small group of people, every one of whom I can trust to the end. I would have to travel pretty far to get to anywhere safe. My plan would eventually be to make it to Scotland (I live near London) which would be an epic mission but the eventual result would be great. The highlands have steep and difficult terrain, which is very unpopulated with many safe hiding spots! It's also pretty rich in wildlife.

I think this is why my approach to the apocalypse is probably so different to yours, I would pretty much always have to live a nomadic lifestyle, given that there aren't any safe areas near me, and thus I would always have to travel as light as possible. Hopefully because of that looters wouldn't be a problem, since I wouldn't have anything worth stealing! I hate to say it but I think maybe your chances when the time comes will probably be considerably better than mine haha, and if my time comes I'll message you from hell
