Correct, they did, hence why the German scout is black. I think the oddness of it was that in the beta they were somewhat overrepresented, if that makes sense, as the British side at the time of the beta only had one white soldier (Support) and two black (Assault and scout, when in reality they were a bit rarer than one might think, and segregated into the West India Regiment). The only army that was truly widelyΒ mixedΒ and lacking segregated units was France, if memory serves correctly, and they sadly aren't even in the game.

I'm pretty sure that, if they actually put a Black character as one of the available German soldiers, it is just out of political correctness, and not really based on any historical data or accuracy.

Sure, there were a few individuals. They were not very representative though, and would hardly even reach a hundred out of the total 11 million German soldiers.
When it comes to the main point, you will have to agree with me: It is mainly out of political motivation.
They want to avoid that type of people that complained about how Disney's Frozen was too White, even though it was based on a medieval Norwegian tale, and couldn't logically be any other way.
Edit: Also, these Black soldiers were only supposed to have existed in the German colonies in Africa, and probably didn't fight in Europe.
