Description Liemynes are creatures of the dark underground. Their ancestors date back to the Cambrian period, where it is hypothesized they abandoned their exoskeleton shells in favor of soft-bodied, yet flexible forms. Since Liemyne and its ancestors had no bones, solid evidence of their past lineage and ancestral anatomy is hard to come by. However, it can be assumed that many of this creatures relatives died off with the great sweeping extinctions between eras.

Of the few species that survived, they found themselves in a new hostile world not welcoming to their survival. Like most creatures, those that evolved survived and those that did not died off, but unlike other creatures, Liemyne never quite adapted conventional body structure. They did not have bones, and they did not have an exoskeleton, yet they could slither, crawl, climb, and locomote themselves enough not to become outpaced by pre-dinosaurs, dinosaurs, and eventually pre-humans. When the dinosaur extinction occurred, only those of the genus adapted to the underground lived on.

In the present day they continue to survive, thriving in some biomes, barely clinging in others. It seems their alien nature will always be a hindrance to their survival. They have become so rare in the wild that they have been labeled as a cryptid species. Fortunately for them (and unfortunately for some other species) the artificial environments created by human sewer systems is perfect for their lifestyle. More than 70% of Liemyne live in areas where humans have established themselves, and that is no coincidence. The vast underground spaces, damp environments, and influx of "nutrients" (be it human, the product of a human, or another "invasive" animal) as well as the lack of predators allow Liemynes to breed freely. Since they are so differently adapted, conventional toxins do not kill them, and most bacteria are harmless to them. They could happily live in a septic tank.

Most members of the Liemyne genus are small and harmless slug-like entities with the exception of one: Liemyne Venenum (Shown above). This is the largest and most aggressive species of Liemyne. While smaller cousins passively subsist on nutrient material and the occasional small creature, Venenum actively preys on rats, and if threatened or hungry, humans. True to its name, Venenum possesses a potent toxin on its appendages capable of causing massive internal bleeding. Luckily humans are so evolutionarily distant the poison does not interact with them, but other species of mammal are partially vulnerable, which is still enough to spell death.

The typical Liemyne Venenum alternates between ambush tactics and roaming hunts. It prefers to stay in water, but can survive on land as long as it does not dry out. In a humid enough environment this creature can exist out of water indefinitely, but still prefers not to. The two "visual" organs on their head resemble eyes, but serve an unknown purpose and the creature does not require them for survival. Versions of Liemyne Venenum have even been spotted without these silver orbs, suggesting they are either vestigial, developed or undeveloped through age, or have something to do with mating.

Liemyne Venenum often has fights with Sewer Dwellers darksack100.deviantart.com/art… , another mysterious species that thrives in the same ecosystem and is less aggressive towards people.

Yeah, you can hug him. I'm not going to deprive you of the opportunity.
But keep in mind that Liemyne Venenum is slimy and lives in the sewers,
so it's got a coating of filth on it sometimes. It may also confuse your actions
for a predatory attack, so it'll stab at you with its scythes to make you back off.

Beyond that the experience is rather pleasant.

And that's probably Liemyne in the right corner running away because it's spooked.
