watched the new Rebuild of Evangelion movies recently, after not thinking about this show in years.the weird, overt sexualization of the 14-year-olds in this show always bothered me. tried to make her look like the awkward troubled kid she is, I guess, supposed to be??

Rebuild raised the series' level of sexuality a great deal from what I saw
kinda wish they'd stop milking the original show, nothing I've seen that they've released for this series since then has impressed me

I thought the Rebuild movies were generally more tightly-written and better made than the show. That's kind of inevitable, though, and yes it would be better if they'd moved on to something new!

The weird, overt sexualization was SUPPOSED to bother people; as I understand, the producers intended it to be pointedly satirical of other series of its time that featured jailbait characters. Of course, half the audience missed the point.
