Description
What happens after "Stardust Crusaders" ?Something that is completely its opposite in terms of structure. The 3rd part was more of quest to destroy DIO, this on the other hand does not have an established quest or goal ... For the better ! However I have to warn you , unless you're like me and never bothered by spoilers (spoilers actually tantalize me into reading a story...), you'd better read THIS part of Jojo for yourself ! If you did, then welcome to the city of Duwang! www.youtube.com/watch?v=klRxBB… (Seriously, this song is so fitting it's not even funny...).
Set in 1999, Jotaro travels to the Japanese town of Morioh to track down Joseph's illegitimate son, Josuke Higashikata. At the same time, a mysterious arrow that can grant Stands to its targets makes its rounds around town, creating more and more enemies for the two and their friends (especially that most people hit by said arrow are kind of nuts !) . Upon discovering the earthbound ghost of a murder victim, the group must track down a mysterious Stand-using serial killer named Yoshikage Kira terrorizing the town.
Now people , I absolutely loved the 3rd part and everything that led to it, but it is clear that Araki's strongest asset is innovation when it comes to writing. This series is a lot more intimate and unpredictable. We learn more about Morioh and the people who live there (as well as how stands are not only there to fight with...), thus get a better sense of closeness and warmth. A lot of people call this part a slice of life , I call it HONESTLY a Mickey Mouse comics in manga form ...
PROS
+ As far as protagonists go, each one is great and distinct, bringing something different to the table and getting enough panel time to develop them
* Josuke Higashikata (is actually a Jojo due to being Joseph's son...) is just as kind as his Great-great-grandfather Jonathan and as no nonsense as his nephew Jotaro. Actually, Josuke is pretty much similar to Mickey Mouse ! I mean seriously : A generally good guy that can get pissed off rather quickly and unapologetically kick the offender in the nuts? CHECK. Has horrible luck when it comes to money ? CHECK. Can be reasonable but is never preachy or moralistically boring ? CHECK. Has a sense of deduction and improvising against deadly foes ? CHECK. Also Crazy Diamond is stupendous.
* Koichi Hirose might be my favorite in the team. He's a savant mixture of Son Gohan and Yugi Muto ... and that's no shame ! Echoes is what Cell would be if it were a pokemon XD !
* Okuyasu Nijimura is pretty much a goofier Kuwabara , which makes for a very likeable sidekick. He's at his most badass during the very final fight in this arc.
* Rohan Kishibe ... a mangaka who has one of the fucking freakiest stands in the entire franchise. Look up Heaven's Door ! This guy evolves from a jerk to a more bearable eccentric artist, but in both cases he's quite the strategist !
+ Always a pleasure to see Jotaro and Joseph (and no, I don't care if Joseph grew old ! It fucking happens in real life technically !)
+ The new stands that are discovered throughout the arc are simply unique. Araki ditched the Tarot naming and would base them on band or song names (and the man has got some taste !).
+ Mikitaka Hazekura is a hilarious alien !
+ Reimi Sugimoto adds a very eerie feeling to the last 2/3 of the story-arc and gives it a more definitive direction.
+ Hayato Kawajiri ... just Hayato Kawajiri. If you feel nothing for what happened to him and his family , you should try to get your eyes checked. Seriously...
+ While Akira Otoishi was indeed a sign for horrifying things to come, the main show stealer is THE big foe of the story : Yoshikage Kira. You wanna know why Kira works out so well ? Because he (like his arc ) is a complete 180 compared to the previous bosses. This David Bowie look-alike is your regular salary-man who only strives to live a normal predictable life without having his rituals interrupted (I can relate to that... even though I'm only a moderate loner. Him? Guy could not be happier if he were an ermit ! ) .Ladies and gentlemen , Yoshikage Kira www.zerochan.net/694845#full 2.bp.blogspot.com/-vvYSEBjQIts… . The problem ? He has a huge fascination with women right hands, therefore kills a young woman to get it and treats said hand as his girlfriend... until it rots. In that case, he has to look out for a new one. As for the body , his killer queen gets rid of it in an instant. (I would use Killer Queen for other purposes , hehe ...)
My favorite Killer Queen technique remains his most complex one www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWsJcg… . Fantastic and formidable character , Yoshikage leaves a huge impression in the end.
+ Yoshikage's father Yoshihiro Kira is , I have to admit, even scarier....
CONS
- Some parts before the final confrontation against Yoshikage Kira felt a bit off...
- Some stand users could have been used better.
On the whole, this is one of my favorite stories . Simply Brilliant ! See ya next time !

"Just so you know, I wasn't trying to run from you. If I wanted to kill you, I could've done so at any time. The reason I didn't was just because I don't like fighting. Strife is the exact opposite of the peaceful life I aim for, so I hate it. It's easy to win one battle, but then you accumulate stress for your next battle. It's a foolish thing to do. Fight with others is a sad and endless process."
"We were coming after you because you killed Shigechi, you dumbass!"
"A pig bastard like you whose hobby is to kill people doesn't have the right to talk about what he wants to do, you dipshit!"

You know, while you might not like Shigechi that much, his stand is really cool and he found a good use for it's abilities(unless you hate the stand together with him in which case...meh)Still,very nice review

The stand is fine. That little twat is annoying and it's a testament to said annoyance when I side with the depraved paraphiliac !

Admittedly the one gripe I have with it is that it's hard for me to believe Joseph would have an affair

It did not surprise me much... his grandfather he is not.

In his defense he did try to make up for it when he learned about his son and it was only the one time. Also he was a foxy grandpa at the time. When I think about it, Holy and Josuke do share that protective nice guy trait with one another. I would love to see Josuke meet his much older half-sister. And because the invisible baby was adopted by Joseph and Suzi Q, there's a grand 57 year difference between all the siblings. It'd be interesting if they ever explore the original universe again with Shizuka Joestar as the main protagonist, set around 2018. I would have the plot be about the origin of the meteorite from which the stone arrows came from.

I don't think Araki will do it. Bear in mind that SBR is originally its own creature. That's why I consider the first 6 parts to be part of one narrative.

Is sad now. Oh well, that's what fanfiction is for
The Jojo line is confusing. Joseph technically has uncles and a son younger than his grandson, along with an adoptive daughter younger than his great-grandson.

They better make a Diamond is Unbreakable anime. They've done Parts 1-3 already, might as well do the whole set.

Continuing with my absurdly fast pace of keeping up with your JJBA reviews... onwards to Pompadour is Unbreakabl-*shot*
This might be the first part of the franchise were I like, hell, everyone!
Also, vote Kira for scariest villian of all JJBA?Yes?
Don´t forget the hilarious dynamic between Rohan and Josuke.
Only con in this part IMO is Fatty, never liked him that much, even if I felt bad for him when he went boom.

Actually, I rooted FOR Kira when he exploded that little twat . XD
But for the rest , and despite some fluff, DIU is indeed great ! Jousuke has a heart of gold, Rohan is an amazing Jerk, Okuyasu is almost inexplicably likeable, and Kira is the villain I relate and emphathize with the most . devilkais.deviantart.com/art/D…

Oh well, he wasn´t the most likeable of charas to begin with(Fatty I mean)!
Apart from that, yeah, everyone is likeable in this part.

I'm still in Part 4 and i love it!
By the way, i see you know Yu Yu Hakusho.
Who's cooler and who's stronger? Yusuke Urameshi or Josuke Higashikata?
For me, though Yusuke is stronger (At the end of Three Kings arc he was strong as Super Saiyan Goku) but Josuke is cooler.
HIS HAIR. OMG, i love it so much! He's the PERFECT MAN for me! (And other than that, i'm a guy!)

I do prefer Josuke too (for the reasons I've stated ). Though , wait until you get to the wonder that is Yoshikage Kira . He's easily my favorite JoJo villain (and I loved all the JoJo Big Bads , so that's no small praise !)

Heheh. Can't say that I've read much of JoJo, even when I first heard about it in Shonen Jump, but based on what I've seen of it now, and of course this in-depth personal analysis, I can say that it's certainly a very cool series with a lot of complex themes going for it. Just wacky and actiony and so unpredictable.
I can say that I think Josuke's story is pretty entertaining, but I also feel that his entire design is wakcy enough that he brings enough entertainment to the story as it is. Great work with this one, man.

Also the new anime adaptation is simply pitch perfect. Jojo is clearly a title that really deserves more popularity !
