Description
I'll never forget the first time I've read it, bracing myself for the saga that apparantly raped puppies, caused 5 new types of cancer and drank orange juice after brushing its teeth... Turns out that I got THIS instead www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU48r-…The bulk of the story for those who don't know (cus unfortunately, Big Red O here never made it in animation...) is that Professor X lost control of his powers and fueled by all of his repressed darker impulses, slowly but surely produced an evil, near-omnipotent secondary personality called Onslaught. Said entity was at first disappointed with the X-men dream and how unfruitful it was and later on realized that mutants at the helm would produce something like the Age Of Apocalypse, so human free will needed to be erased for peace ! None shall survive ! Fear its mighty hand ! And it's not surprising considering what his son Legion did !
Onslaught battled the X-Men, The Avengers, and the Fantastic Four which is honestly refreshing and reassuring for me.
I mean, reading THIS after Civil War makes me realize that there is a Marvel Universe I still can get mileage out of instead of the pseudo-deep cuntfuckery of Millar, Bendis and their ilk...
The new direction with Hickman ? IRONICALLY his version of Xavier is BASICALLY DOING WHAT ONSLAUGHT WANTED before it went all out nuts. Yeah, I am not much for creepy plant-pos people and sex cults gallore. In fact I'd love to see the actual true X-men of the 90's react to the "nation" that brings up the fucking equivalent of a Boss rush that made their lives hell as allies without any question asked !
Some answer that they prefer sci-fi X-men rather super-heroes x-men.... Fuck off ! Since WHEN has ALL sci-fi become cold and inhuman ? The Alien tetralogy was bleak as fuck but I don't remember being detached or unfeeling towards Ripley and Ripl-8....
I am firmly in the 80s-90s x-men camp. When they fought for their dream. When they were a family of outcasts who try to do what is right while trying to find their own small amounts of happiness in a twisted world. I want villains who are of varied types of moralities and represent perversions of their ideals or situations. And also bury Xavier and Magneto deep underground. Right here is the last time their shtick has been interesting...

This story could have been a fantastic farewell to Xavier. Knowing Marvel chiefs they would have brought him back eventually, because of course they would, but it's a pity we didn't get even a short period to see what THESE X-Men would have been like in a post-Xavier world.
