Description
August 2011Decided to experiment some more with grayscale digital shading over pencil. Done with Painter this time, which I love more and more
The concept should be pretty obvious...a merman out of the water, slowly disintegrating. Maybe one day I'll get round to writing a story for it...

Even though he is disintegrating he is still hot.

Poor thing
Looks gorgeous though. I do like the effect - I didn't realise you'd used painter until I read the text underneath. : )

I really like the concept of a merman actually not being able to exist out of water. It's that much stronger than the usual wherein they simply suffocate or are ill when on land. And I really, really like how you've done the hair. His forearms seem a little thin, but then... it sort of suits him, too, in a strange way.... I'm not sure now. Either way, very enjoyable piece. Would love to read the story someday.

I agree about the arms, the one in the foreground has been bothering me ever since I scanned it - one of those niggling things that one never seems to have the time to fix >.> I'm so glad you like the concept, with a little more brainstorming the story might just take shape^^

Amazing work. And the fact that he doesn't seem to be in pain or having regrets make it even more interesting. I hope you write that story someday

Don't know why, but this made me think of Zero Kiryu from Vampire Knight when I saw it. Must be the angsty expression.

Beautiful soft shading and use of subtle light. The effect you created with his form fading away turned out so pretty!
