Ported to OBJ from the model created by Erwin Welker for Microsoft's Flight Simulator X (FSX). Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS. NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.
The Lutjens class of destroyers, named after the admiral (Gunter Lutjens) who commanded the German battleship Bismarck during its during its one and only legendary sortie during World War II, were modified Charles F. Adams class destroyers (CFA type) built especially for the Cold War era Federal German Navy (FGN), or Bundesmarine, by the Bath Iron Works in the United States in co-operation with the United States Navy (USN). They were functionally identical to their USN counterparts, but their stacks were converted into platforms topped by macks to vent their boiler exhaust and both the type and arrangement of gear on their main mast were different, as well as having a second small mast atop their rear mack platform for additional antennas and such, in compliance with Bundesmarine requirements. Six were originally planned but only three were eventually built: Lutjens (D185), Molders (D186), and Rommel (D187). All three were excellent performers and were routinely refitted and upgraded with the latest naval technologies as their design and Bundesmarine operational needs required. They were also the last of the steam-only powered warships of the Bundesmarine, with its later warships switching to either CODAG (combined diesel and gas) or pure gas turbine propulsion. They entered service in 1969 and remained in service with the Bundesmarine and its post-Cold War successor, the Deutsche Marine, until 2003. They were finally taken out of service due to increasing age and as more units of the Saschen class frigates (comparable in size despite the different classification) came online to replace them. Rommel was decommissioned early in 1998 and cannibalized for spare parts to keep the other two operational before being scrapped in 2004, and Lutjens was the next to follow in 2003 (scrapped 2012). An effort to save Molders as a museum ship, which was also decommissioned in 2003, was successful and she can be visited today at the historic German naval port of Wilhelmshaven. She is the only surviving CFA-type destroyer in the world, with all others having been scrapped. To find out more about the German Lutjens class destroyers, follow the link below:

CFS2 CG artist Erwin Welker, who did and still has the best free Charles F. Adams class destroyer model out there IMHO, modded his own model when he released it in its second improved form so he could included the museum ship Molders with his original CFS2 release package, which this model represents. This is a straightforward port with no changes by me. You will have to alter yourself the textures for the ship's crest and hull numbers if you want to use this model for the other two ships in the class, Lutjens and Rommel, or you can leave them off if you want a generic Lutjens type for your Cold War era Bundesmarine fantasy fleets. Also, if any of you want to rig my OBJ port of this model and re-release it in other 3D model formats (XPS, FBX, PSK, MDL, etc.) I don't mind if Mr. Welker doesn't.
This is not my model. All I did was port it for you. Please credit Erwin Welker if you use this in any of your own 3D projects and efforts. You do not have to credit me for my OBJ port.
