Description Ported to OBJ and further modified by me from the retail quality model created by Erwin Welker for the Microsoft Flight Simulator series of games.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

Slava was meant to serve the same anti-ship role as the large and impressive Kirov class guided missile battlecruisers but on a standard sized cruiser hull.  This is the reason why they look so piled up with weaponry, even given traditionally top-heavy Soviet naval designs, because they are (laugh).  They are based on part on the older Kara class design but enlarged, revamped, and strengthened in order to carry their very heavy missile battery of sixteen (16) SS-N-12 Sandbox anti-ship missles, sixty-four (64) SA-N-Grumble surface-to-air missiles in eight rotary launchers amidships aft, and the expected pair of retractable SA-N-4 Gecko point-defense missiles.  That's also not forgetting its dual RBU6000 rocket launchers, ten (10) hull-mounted torpedo tubes (five per side), the expected large mine warfare capability, and its dual 130mm main gun.  Where it skimps in terms of traditional Soviet warship design is its ASW suite, which is frequently described as minimal at best.  All the same they are considered very capable warships and are currently the largest full cruiser class that the cash-strapped Russian Federation tries to keep active as much as possible  Three were built from 1982 to 1988, while a fourth uncompleted one is owned by Ukraine, as it now owns the shipyard where these were built.  Russia has been negotiating with Ukraine ever since the end of the Cold War to find a way to get the fourth Slava completed and added to its navy at the minimum possible cost, but without any luck.  In the meantime the three completed Slavas are normally used as fleet flagships whenever an active Kirov is not present for the task.  To find out more about Slava, follow the link below:

This is a straight port by me, with only two changes by me.  First, I changed the deck textures from dull orange to rust red-orange so this would work better with my other Cold War era Soviet warship models.  Second, I altered the uniform medium grey to sea grey on some parts of the model, so as to (hopefully) better match with the sea gray toned canned textures of other parts.

This is not my model.  All I did was port it to OBJ and make the two texture-related changes as noted above.  Please credit Erwin Welker as the original creator if you use this in any of your own 3D projects.  You do not have to credit me for my part.

ASIDE - At long last!  A higher quality Slava that better matches with my Cold Waters ported Soviet warship models!  Yay!  Of course it'll match even better once I have the time to give it the Cold Waters replacement parts treatment, just I did with the NWAC Slava.  It's still very good as is.  Enjoy!
