The Project 671 family of Cold War era attack submarines built for the former Soviet Navy (Sovetsky flot for short, the full name is way too long in any language) are known to most folks here in the West by their NATO code name of Victor. Victor kicked off the second generation of Soviet attack submarines and represented a giant leap forward in Soviet submarine technology from the earlier, far noisier (underwater), and trouble-plagued November class. Its Russian designers copied the teardrop hull pioneered by the United States Navy (USN) and used by other NATO members, but added a few twists of their own such as "tear-dropping" the sail to boot. This combination, along with better engines and an improved nuclear reactor and first employed with Victor, would set the basic design pattern for all subsequent Soviet attack boats for the rest of the Cold War. Because of its design the Victor family were the fastest attack subs fielded by anybody (even over the USN's famed Los Angeles class) until the Soviet Alfa and its successors came along. Victor was produced in three basic variations or production blocks which are known as Victor I, II, and III here in the West and in Russian as Project 671 Yorsh, Project 671RT Syomga, and Project 671RTM/RTMK Shchuka (named after the famed World War II family of Soviet coastal subs). The remainder of this write-up deals with the Victor II, the second version or iteration in the Victor family (Project 671RT Syomga).
Victor II was originally called the Uniform class by NATO analysts when it first entered Soviet naval service in 1972 because they thought they were dealing with an entirely new class of Soviet subs. That's how much of an improvement Victor II was over the original Victor I as well as having a major visual difference. Victor II is 6.1 meters longer forward of the sail than the original Victor I, and as was later learned this was to provide extra storage room necessary for both a new generation of more powerful, longer, and subsequently heavy 650mm naval torpedoes (designed to knock out American supercarriers), as well as the new powered equipment necessary for handling and loading them into the launch tubes. The other big difference was in the way they were built. Victor II was the first time that an early form of raft mounting (a specialized form of sub equipment acoustic quieting) was used in the construction of a Soviet sub in order to significantly reduce underwater noise, and that coupled with certain other additional noise-reducing features worked for a while ... that is; until American naval sonar operators quickly learned to listen for and recognize the new (and quieter) unique acoustic signature of a Victor II. This was in real life somewhat similar to what happens regarding the new fictional Soviet caterpillar drive in The Hunt for Red October (based on real-life Soviet sub technology, BTW), and once the Americans had that capability then Victor II's underwater cover was pretty much blown. It didn't take long for the Soviet Admiralty to learn what had happened (thanks to info provided to them by the Walker spy ring within the U.S. Navy, go look it up), and once they did they cancelled the Victor II class at only seven boats built and moved on to Victor III. All seven of the Victor II boats continued to serve anyway until a few years after the end of the Cold War. The entire class was decommissioned and laid up in the 1996-97 time frame by an impoverished Russia, which simply couldn't afford to keep them in service anymore, and all of them were eventually scrapped. This is a straight port with no changes by me.
While I am no longer making my OBJ ports of Silent Hunter series models available for public download, you can get this yourself in one of two ways. You can extract it piecemeal from the game data using the free SKWAS/s3ditor model utility and rebuild it in your preferred 3D modeling software, or you can rip it directly from the game after installing any necessary mods or mod packs noted above using any good 3D model ripper (3D Ripper DX or NinjaRipper recommended).
While there's no free high quality Victor II 3D model floating around in the Internet ether of which I am aware as I write this (July 2022), there are at least one free fan-created SketchUp model each (SKP format) of both Victor I and Victor III you can get over at Google's 3D Warehouse. Either one could be modified appropriately for Victor II provided you have the necessary 3D modeling skills. Good luck!
