He could have drugged her, they had drugs powerful enough to kill, but when your loved one is going to turn into an evil killer, I guess you don't think straight. I imagine he saw her eyes turning back and grabbed the nearest item and hit her, then thought "Uh oh, what now?" Panicked and took her to the river

She's his wife, she was bitten by a Dark Fu and is becoming a Dark Chi.
He thinks he's doing the kindest thing by drowning her, but he thought he'd knocked her out for long enough to do it when she was still out cold.
