Burai from my series STRIFE:

Backstory:
At the age of 8 Burai ran away from his home of an abusive father and a mother who was never around. Alone and without any friends Burai traveled to various small towns across Japan, stealing food and valuables in order to survive.

One day Burai came upon a seemingly abandoned temple in the countryside. As he looked around the temple Burai saw an old sword that was left on display, a perfect item to steal while no one was looking. He was about to grab the sword when Burai felt a painful blow that sent his whole body flying back. When he looked up he saw a young boy standing in front of him in a fighting stance.

Immediately the master of the dojo appeared, and explained that the 'Yamada' blade was a priceless family heirloom. The master then extended his hand to Burai "If you want to handle the sword honorably, you must train and master the way's of Yamada karate." said the Sensei. At that moment Burai had found what he was looking for, a purpose.

Ever since Burai trained at the dojo alongside Jiro Yamada, the small boy who had thwarted his thievery.
