Well, I'll share a little secret: try this out yourself and see if it works...
-set your camera to a mid level ISO - say 300/400
-use a macro lens w/ F 2.0
-use a delayed flash or full flash
-use thick incence smoke...
-use a dim/ black background ---

Yep, thats thick incence smoke I captured while the air was chilled to 18C. I guess it was just a fluke...
