Description
This is a picture of a group of monsters and animals from my 'Zaldor' Fantasy setting. This was a prize asked for by and includes his requested inclusion, my adaptation of his Bear-like Sasquatch. Some are bizarre spirits or mutated creatures, while others are just surviving animals that are extinct in our world. do realize that these creatures are not to scale of each other, some are much larger than others. On the top left in blue is a Bogey Man, a type of Dark Fairy spirit that feeds on the fears of the young children it torments.
Being weak, small and cowardly, a bogey man knows it cannot confront an adult human, as an adult could easily hurt a bogey man if it were confronted as easily as they could hurt a small cat. Thus they are limited to hiding in closets and under beds, making creepy noises to scare children, aided by child's wild imagination and less brave attitude towards danger. As harming children would only alert adults, they prefer to remains hands off. They also do not like bright lights, so they often hide their eyes and remain still, turning invisible temporarily so as to avoid direct detection. If a parent begins to look for a Bogey Man, they activate a limited telportation ability and leave the house, looking for a new home to haunt.
Being that they only mean to scare, not harm children, Bogey men are relatively harmless. Seeing as they are very good at hiding, only the scholarly or superstitious believe in them if they have not directly confronted one. Using magic, it is easy enough to spot and trap a bogey man, so they tend to avoid the homes of magic users. Rarely does a Bogey man desire any more than to just to feed on fear, but when a Bogey man desires more than just nourishment, they can become dangerous, as they can be employed as useful spies, thieves, saboteurs and even assassins if armed properly. However, these 'adventeuring' Bogey man are few and far between and there are more dangerous creatures that can fill these roles better.
To the left in black is the Sasquatch Bear. Named after the terrestrial bipedal ape of Northern Zaldor, the Sasquatch Bear (sometimes jokingly called 'Bear Foot' instead of Bigfoot) is a type of bear that was magically mutated to possess a bipedal gait as well as a type of true thumb on its forepaws. Beyond its stance, it is little different then an American Black Bear, though it makes use of its stance in different ways, grabbing plants and animals to eat effectively with its paws. They are not smart enough use anything but the most rudimentary of tools (they are not smarter than the average bear), but still gain enough from this way of walking to get on better than their quadrupedal cousins.
Next, in grey is a Jackelope. A Type of large, mutated Jack Rabbit, the Jackelope has a pair of short pronged horns that resemble the horns of a pronghorn, or American antelope. It is through these horns are not a natural occurrence, and is the result of a magical mutation. They serve the rabbits little use, but some males use them as display devices to attract females, and they occasionally scare off eagles or coyotes, but can are often a nuisance when burrowing, casuing some jackelopes to sleep in the open. Beyond their horns, there is nothing else unusual about a Jackelope.
The horned gopher, or Ceratogaulus, was a type of naturally occurring horned rodent related to the common gopher. Growing as large as the common North American beaver, the horned gophers were one of the few naturally occurring horned fossorial mammals. Unlike the Jackelope, the horned gophers naturally evolved on Zaldor long before the human age, and simply did not go extinct as they did in our world. Having evolved naturally instead of as a magical fluke, a Horned Gopher likely used their horns as defence against predators, as they would have impeded digging.
Champsosaurus was a type of Mesozoic reptile that was thrown forward in time alongside the dragons, dinosaurs and other extinct animals by the Zeruin civilization when they tried to avoid extinction at the hands of the K-Pg asteroid. Ironically, the Champsosaurs survived the extinction event that came in the wake of the asteroid, but later went extinct millions of years later in the Eocene. They were revived when a large population was thrust forward in time by the Zeruin's temporal spell, now thriving in parts of Zador. Though they look like Crocodilians, they are not closely related, but still act as aquatic ambush predators. Many humans don't know the difference between a Champsosaurus and an alligator, so they just treat them as different types of crocodilians, only a biologist would know the major differences, knowing that a crocodile was closer to a dinosaur or even a bird than a Champsosaurus. I drew these version hear black like an American Alligator rather than green as it is commonly depicted.
Lastly on the bottom is a Hoop Snake, a type of magically altered pit viper with a bizarre means of locomotion, as it can grasp its own tail harmlessly in its own mouth and stiffen its spine into a circular shape resembling a hoop, where it gets its name. The Hoop snake is quite long, about as long as a Bushmaster, and it bigger than a Diamondback Rattlesnake. It possesses a small horn above its nose much like a rhino viper. It does not possess a rattle like a rattlesnake. It can then supposedly roll on its own to chase after prey or escape predators. Rumours that it can outrun a grown man in an open field prove false, as it can only roll very slowly across open terrain, and it only achieves top speed when rolling down a hill. This tactic is often use to escape larger predators, not chase prey, as it still only hunts small birds, reptiles and mammals, as it cannot swallow anything as big as a human, using ambush tactics seen in most pit vipers rather then openly chase them. Its bite is still quite venomous among pit vipers, but only bites people when confronted and given little other option of defending itself.

I like them all, but the Bogey Man is definitely my favorite I like the way you incorporated boogeyman mythology into it while still keeping it a regular, albeit magical, creature. I also like that they can be trained to be used in various ways (spies, thieves, saboteurs, assassins) since their abilities make them uniquely useful in those positions

Thank you, I am glad you like it then. Thanks, glad you like the Bogey Man in particular, I thought it was a nice addition. I always like working on the mythical creatures of Zaldor or Terra as a whole and what makes them unique to my interpretations. Right now I am working on New World myths like the Chupacabra, Ahiazotl, Sasquatch, Skunk Ape, Jackelope and Thunder Bird. I'll show you more links to those I've already done if you want to see them, and keep showing you new links as I make them if you'd like.
Thanks for the Fave too.

Oh, okay, well that one I already did. See it here dinalfos5.deviantart.com/art/C…
I also did a Hodag dinalfos5.deviantart.com/art/Z… an Ahiozotl dinalfos5.deviantart.com/art/C… the Jersey Devil dinalfos5.deviantart.com/art/C… and also a Sky Reaper, dinalfos5.deviantart.com/art/S… not based on a myth or cryptid, but on an idea of a terrifying pterasaur predator.
So should I keep you up to date with other Zaldor creatures as I draw them then, send you a link when I finish them?

Good, I'll keep you informed in the future.
By the way, I don't think I ever told you about the Zaldor/Terra world that these monsters live in did I? Would you ever like to hear about that? About the world, races, monsters, gods, spirits, planes and heroes of that world? It's a lot to discuss, I've been working at this world for about 10 years now.

Alright, well, I'll start with notes then.
In the meantime, if you are interested, this is my gallery related to all things Zaldor dinalfos5.deviantart.com/galle… You should keep in mind that this setting has been around for a long time and is evolving. It started out as a campaign setting for my Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 Edition games with my brother, but since I poured so much creativity into it, it has since evolved into its own fantasy setting that I tried to divorce from Dungeons and Dragons specifics, that could (if I ever get my act together) become a novel or series of novels.
I'll get ready to send you a few notes about the setting soon.
