Description As you can probably guess, this work draws from both Lewis Carroll and Expressionism. Also, there is some Jungian thing going on with the shadow.

I dedicate this work to `saintartaud , because she's awesome. She has been very influential on my cultural development, pointing me to artists, films, books, comics, musicians and other things I wouldn't know about if she hadn't recommended them. This work is a "thank you" card of sorts for her. For you, AR.

This is weird, like a straight cross between a bawdy postcard and something altogether more terrifying. The girl's pose is great and original. I don't think the style of her dress works well in context with the picture, but what can you do?
I like the overall light/dark gradient and the sense that the girl is trapped by the wall.
I think the shadow maybe needs to be a bit more distinct and a bit more interesting.
And I agree, *saintartaud is a wonderful individual.

when i look at this i keep thinking the shadow is going to pinch her butt. i am so naughty. very nice shot though. i really love how she is leaning forward towards the wall and how the feet look. graceful yet not. beautiful.

As many times as I've seen you around the forums, I've just never connected the dots and visited your gallery. And now that I have, I wish I would have done that earlier.

This is a great piece. It's surreal, it's beautiful, it's realistic, and it just has all the elements. I don't remember who it was, but they defined surrealism as "an umbrella on a surgical table". This kind of makes me think of it. This is altogether a capture of something out of context. It's weird, but it makes sense. The kind of thing you'd dream about, or imagine when you're reading a book.

Bottom line, a beautiful piece of Art.

I'm not sure. Surrealism sounds more like some image you'd see on a dream (think Dali's melting clock) rather than a missplaced object. More than an umbrella on a hospital room, it's like doves coming out from a gunshot wound.

this is altogether a capture of something out of context

I don't know about surrealism, but that line kind of hits the point. There is a short tale I read sometime, which was one single sentence that said "And when the man woke up, the dinosaur wasn't there". Thats the whole story. It really doesn't says anything, just that a man woke up and saw nothing by his side. But the real fun is in imagining what happened the night before, or what is going to happen now that the dinosaur is not there. Sicne we don't have grounds to trace the story up or down, it basically leads you to making up your own story.

I think that's the approach I give to my works (i refuse to call them 'art'). Instead of showing people a whole idea, emotion, story, etc; I just show them a little glimpse or something. And instead of saying "this work is about blahblahblah", I say "ok, this is it. now YOU tell me what you can make up with it". But nowadays too many people has a distorted concept in their mind... people somehow expect it to provide them with meaning, to console them or present them with a message. But that's not the purpose of art.

Anyways... thank you very much for your kind words. I really appreciate it

Lol, this is great. Very simple yet enough to drive ones imagination wild. And *saintartaud lives a few blocks from me. Although I've never officially met her in person. We've probably exchanged sneers on the street, though...

The shadow on the wall is great, how did you do it? I also like how she is a ballerina, adds a lot of grace to her.

Ach! Now I'm embarassed! Thank you...
This is very lovely. I get the whole shadow thing--here it's absolutely inescapable. The shadow is nicely blended, but I especially like the way the wall has that rough texture, reminiscent of Saudek's wall, but a different thing. Her gesture is so lovely and tormented. It's just a very nice, felt piece.

Excellent work. The pose fits perfect for the idea. The effect of crumpled up paper works good with this also.

And yes, you and :saintartaud: have influenced alot of us. If it wasn't for you both, I wouldn't know Tom Waits or Nick Cave.

As usual, your works have an impending doom and an overall sense of well-thought creation. I think it's a classic photo, like you said, that meets the Disi - someone who can manipulate an image to a point of complete satisfaction. I love her stance - like she is completely unaware, and in her own state of calm. Great image my friend. Nice to see you still kickin' it hard.
