A cosplay I made for Anime Expo 2010, with some guidance from my mom. I'd never made anything with sleeves or a collar before, nor have I ever made pants...and I didn't use a pattern >.< so lots of trial and error. I basically finished this noon of the day of.I also made the hat.
My friends and I won Best Group Performance at the Masquerade with a Hetalia skit

Sorry it took me so long to answer! I haven't been on dA in a while... so busy.. ;^;
I freehanded a pattern, basically a large ring shaped like a very rounded triangle for the brim and a circle with triangles cut out evenly from the edge (so that they could overlap and make a round head). First I used the pattern on a soft spongy foam material, bendable but not floppy. Then I used the pattern on the fabric for the hat, making for wide allowances so as to properly cover the foam base. Once you have the basic hat, fold up the brim and sew it in place to form the tricorne shape. Add trim and fancy flowers and ribbons and feathers to your heart's content
