Another oil painting.Okay, this one I know which reference I used! It's the cover of the book [i]Enchantress from the Stars[/i] by Sylvia Engdahl, or at least the top half of it. (I didn't want to have to paint all the machines...) One of my favorite books, which incidentally I lent to my art teacher and she's never returned it...hmm...
This was done years and years ago...

The painting is great- & thank you for naming your source...hope you don't mind, but I'll take it one step further, because the Leo & Diane Dillon are one of my favorite illustrators (they work as a team). I think your edit of their cover art works well, and I think you've managed some of the technical effects really well...I don't know about the cover art for this book, but I do know that the Dillons often work in pastel, or pastel over watercolor, so translating one medium into another also takes skill. Good work.
