I have to agree with the above commentors - lovely color palette. Just because it's an exciting scene doesn't mean it has to be neon!

I also like the glow effects to the UFOs. However, the gray propeller blurs bother me for some reason. A lot, actually. If you're going to have the blur fade out, wouldn't it be only visible on the dragging edge of the blade, and not in front of the leading edge?

Great job using color to indicate the scene changes. It helps make good storytelling even more solid. Good color theory!

Your style is so individual. Not often you can say that about a colourist.

Can't ignore the color theory, you,*Mafeo, and ~MarceloPerini make excellent points about knowing how to use color. Do you find challenging using color digitally than traditionally?

only at first- now that I do everything completely digital, traditional methods seem intimidating. The great thing about working digitally is that there is no need to feel intimidated-you can experiment as much as you want because you can always hit the 'redo' button if it doesn't work out.

I have a cintiq- and it is AWESOME- makes painting digitally much more natural than a regular tablet.

I have seen the Cintiq in action and envy your ownership.

Your welcome. Thanks for the link to Mitch. I've just visited his gallery and yeah he is rather good isn't he .

Don't give the blighter all the credit though your color work is beautiful and subtle.

Coloring is the hardest thing! To do it right, that is. I give high praise to those that have mastered it's subtleties.

I agree with Mafeo, I actually think that most of the comics today have lousy colors... but you're doing a great job on this one dismang, I really liked the pages you posted here. You managed to avoid those boring red and blue tones from cap's uniform, he's looking fantastic.

Thanks so much for that! It's SO nice to have someone notice the "subtleties" & use of color theory- most people these days get caught up in special effects and crazy rendering.

MarceloPerini In reply to dismang [2008-10-31 01:13:10 +0000 UTC]

I guess that's the blowback from using digital coloring techniques, some people just can't keep their hands off from the "fancy effects". Since I'm an architect, I just can't accept big lousy colorfull palettes over simpicity and sensibility.
