Naturally formed by the tilting and shifting of the land over the eons and the the wind and water eroding it.

I've seen a lot of photos of this; are people allowed to walk around it or is there a roped-off area for tourists?

You can walk anywhere you wish but pay attention to some of the more delicate fins.

I think that's pretty surprising, considering the delicacy of many other natural attractions.

BLM is a lot less restrictive than the NPS probably since they have so much more territory to cover.

I got mine thru the online lottery. I do understand they can have 100 people at the daily lottery though.

Mhmm. We just didn't make it. Ah well, I'm sure that I'll be back to Arizona again. I love hiking in that part of the country.

I've heard of it and there are a lot of fine shots of it here on DA. I hope to get there this or next summer.

What a stunning location - definitely an eye-catching geological feature! I really like the way the colour of the rocks stands out so well against the sky... sort of reminds me of chocolate or caramel.

It is a stunning place to visit and and it deceptively occupies a very small area. Well worth a visit though. Thanks from me for suggesting this for a DD.
